Does anyone find that vintage clothing is more comfortable then modern clothing?
— I swear my vintage clothing is more comfortable then even my sweats. A cotton dress from the 1930's or 1940's, or even the 1920's so comfortable, I am not sure why this is, but it might be for two reasons. 1. The fabrics back then for the most part where pure, pure cotton, pure silk, silk velvet, besides rayon which is so much better and more comfortable and breathable then todays spandex and poly blends ( yuck). 2. The clothing was not cut skin tight back then, it was very comfortable fitting c...

Wearing vintage clothing?
— Thought this might make for an interesting topic. How does one best wear vintage clothing? I got together with an old friend of mine yesterday, who wears only vintage-- and wears it head to toe (from the fedora to the lizard monk straps). He only selects clothing that fits him, and looks for handmade buttonholes and pick stitching, but can vintage be overdone? or is it best incorporating one or two vintage pieces in an outfit?
My friend wore the following:
brown beaver felt fedora, very moderate...

cleaning vintage clothes
— I'm putting this here since its a womans suit, not sure if this is the right spot or not though.
Anyway, what is the best way to clean vintage clothing? Dry cleaning? I just got two beautiful outfits, yet they have the "been stored for ever" smell.
Thanks

Vintage clothing: when is enough, enough?
— I have always been a vintage clothing fan, but with the discovery of cheap items of Ebay, my vintage clothing collection is growing by leaps and bounds. Also I have expanded my eras, once I was just 20's, but it slowly expanded into the 1930's, and Edwardian, then with the great style of the ladies on this message board, have inspired me to go into 1940's and 1950's. but now you open my closet and vintage is the dominant thing that pops out. I'm like a 1940's teenager with all of her mom's and g...

Vintage clothes - where do I find them?
— Hey all!
I'm new to the forum, though I've followed by reading for awhile. It's awesome that there are so many people who also love this fabulous era!
As someone who has lusted for Myrna Loy's entire wardrobe in The Thin Man movies, I would love to find some vintage clothes. The trouble is....I don't know where to start! Do you all have any ideas/suggestions on how and where to seek and find?
I look forward to hanging out here!

Vintage maternity and vintage clothes for kids?
— No, I am not pregnant, but I am just wondering, was there such a thing as maternity back in the 1920's, 1930's and 1940's, or did people just wear bigger clothing? Those of you who dress in vintage and have been pregnant, what did you do? Did you buy bigger vintage clothing, or just go with modern stuff? Also, I was just wondering if anyone dresses thier kids in vintage? If so I would LOVE to see pics!

Learning Proper Construction With Vintage Clothing
— I am wearing the suit jacket-cum-sport jacket I bought a couple of months ago. The temperature has dropped into the 40'sF today so it is cool enough to wear a heavier garment.
This is the first piece of vintage clothing I have ever been able to turn up in my size at an affordable price (being a smaller size than I was helps). I am suddenly experiencing so many of the things I have read from Matt Deckard, Wildroot, Marc Chevalier, Tomasso and others. NOW I understand!
On the way to my office, I d...

It could be fun to patch up later, but I kinda don't want to ruin it's unaffected state.
