SaabCentral Forums - HID Conversion Kits
I was hoping to buy a new hid conversion kit but I am not sure what colour looks good on my car.
Any advice?
|
 |
8000k its a nice blue white contrast.
Looks nice just my suggestion though
|
 |
6000k it´s what i have in my 9k....
The best choice is 6000k or less ( to be pratical )
More than this you really see less than standart...
To change...
Its for the best

 |
I just installed a 6000k kit yesterday, really nice color and function at night!!
I'm really impressed!
However I am getting the bulb failure message so i need to install this : http://www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/.../lowbeamfix.htm

6000k for the win, it looks great.
I'm going to have to replace the parking/city lights though, they are extremely yellow compared to the hyper white of 6000k.
I picked 6000k because my brother (Blue Subaru Legacy GT) Has a 10000k kit and it's way too blue for the SAAB, though the Subaru can rock it pretty well.
I could imagine an 8000k kit maybe on a Nocturne Blue SAAB or Silver 9-3, though that's just me.
My car is black
I havn't had any light failure messages, i'm running a Xentec kit.

I have had great results...

Do you have to buy two kits.
One for the high beams and one for the low beams?
thanks
|
 |
|
Actually you dont want HID's in the highs since HID's take a lot longer to fire up than standard halogens so your ability to flash with the highs will be somewhat compromised
One set should be fine unless youre feeling adventerous and want to put a set in the fogs as well.
|
 |
What is the most common kit used, 6000K?
And what bulbs will match the color of the 6000K?
thanks
also i think im going to run the fog lights to so when im coming down the highway people actually think its a jet.
|
 |
Well the stock halogens on our 9-3's are 4300K's if i remeber correctly so the 6000's will be a bit into the blue spectrum.
As far as trying to get the car to look like a jet...
Why not just get the 55watt HID kits...
Now those things can light up a golf course...
And they are actually used in planes
|
 |
|
Who makes a good 55w hid kit?
|
 |
|
Don't know... I know a few of the other guys on here have been batting that idea around
|
 |
|
Whats the difference between the 55w and the 6000k
|
 |
Two seperate things...
The 6000K, 5000k, 7000k all specify the color basically of the light being emitted.
The wattage is the power consumption of the setup...
Standard HID kits run at 35watts while 55watt kits were first introduced in planes because of the much increased amount of light being emmitted.
most of the cars you see run on 35watt kits, and all stock kits that cars come with are 35watts its only a few after market kits that run 55watt setups.
But expect to get flashed pretty often if youre running a 55watt kit because it really does put the sun behind your lenses
|
 |
Maybe ill just stick with the 6000k in the headlights and fogs.
Im not really looking to run people off the road with insane brightness

Here is my experience with a 55watts 8000K kit from apexcone and ddmtuning.
inside the thread there is a youtube video also.

are the Warning Code Eliminators a must with our cars?

If you get a pair I would make sure that they are from somewhere that they can be returned if you have problems with them down the road ie not off ebay.

I went with the kit from xenonlink.com.
I choose the 5000K kit, I believe anything higher in color temp actually puts out less light.
They may be pretty but are dimmer.
Also, I've read that the colors above 5000K are harder on your own eyes.
If you are wanting to look cool then go with the 6000K or higher but if you do a lot of night driving like I do then I strongly suggest the 5000K.
I also put the HID kit in my highbeams and ground the masks down a little for the lowbeams so the bulbs just peek over the edge.
I drive a lot of back roads and deer (and other critters) are a problem.
The highbeams are no good for flashing as posted earlier by cavedudejeff unless they are already heated up.
But they do bring a little sunshine to my dark little world.
When I get my fog light kit I will put HIDs in there also.
I have noticed that the deer look away now instead of staring into my lights.
And people say they can tell it's me a couple of miles away.
There is also a jerk that won't leave his brights on while driving behind me anymore.
I think he got sunburn at 2 am when I let him pass me.
I have the drl's because I cannot find anyone to turn them off.
But that is why I don't get the headlight message for my lowbeams.
Now with the highbeams I had to install a resistor and relay to fool the computer into thinking they are standard bulbs.
I will have to do the same for the lowbeams if I can locate anyone in Michigan to turn off the drl's.
On another note, while working on my headlights I noticed that all the light bulbs emit a ticking sound after you turn the car off.
It's very faint but they all take turns.
It creeped me out the first time i heard it.
It's like they were talking to each other.
