Apple 'Lets Rock' Event new ipods - PS3Forums

Http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/09/l...san-francisco/ So far they have announced Itunes 8, a new Ipod Nano, a 120 gig classic, $79 headphones, and a new touch with integrated volume controls into the side.

Built-in speaker, app store built in, and genius playlist creation. More updates below

I had my touch stolen in Europe, and insurance is buying me a new one, I'll get one of these NEW ones, when do they come out?

RIGHT NOW ZOMG!! prices are 8GB, $229, 16GB for $299, and a 32GB for $399 We now also have iphone update 2.1 "This is a big update, it fixes lots of bugs.

Fewer dropped calls, big battery life improvements.

No crashes with Apps.

Backing up is faster." it is coming this Friday. Nice I just hope this update does what it promises. Nanos should be out this week as well, it has a accelerometer in it so you can shake it to shuffle, or put it on its side for cover flow They showed some games too and look cool.

Right now? You can go get a new iPod touch?

Or its the same touch, but with the update on it?

We think people will really like.

We've got it in 3 models." 8GB, $229, 16GB for $299, and a 32GB for $399.

All three are available today.

"Now we've got a new ad." I wonder if all retail stores have them now or just apple stores and the rest later in the week.

Cool, thanks for the heads up.

Either way its going to be like a month before I get my new 32gig touch again I miss it.

I am still not sure if I am going to keep my iphone or give it to my gf.

I am thinking about picking up an HTC phone, just not sure.

If it improves battery life, fixes this damn glitchy phone I might keep it.

Well we will find out friday.

Personally I have not had many issues with it or at least to the extent people have been complaining about.

Most noticeable to me is the iphone taking a extra second or two to go in to landscape mode or bring up the keyboard.

Mine has all sorts of problems.

Typing a location into google maps is PAINFULLY slow, takes about 2-3 seconds between pressing a key and the phone responding.

It will hard lockup on calls some times, and I have to reboot the phone, it will do the same during webpages.

When I open up my text messages, it takes up to 5 seconds to display.

Just a bunch of stupid things like that which tend to get annoying after a while.

The touch update was great(except external speaker), but the nano/classic updates are meh, copying the zune.

Yeah but they had to make the screen bigger since the old nano was the same gig size as the less expensive zune and had a smaller screen.

Now they have bigger space and screen size to boast. What is wrong with the speaker on the touch?

I always find use for mine on the iphone.

Space? the zune has a 16gig version.

And 1.8 inches vs 2 inches isn't much of a diff. http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/08/m...rms-new-zunes/ I don't like the speakers because every ****ing person will be blasting their music everywhere (mostly bad rap)

Oh yeah forgot about the new zunes. The speaker isn't loud enough to play in public and I don't know how many people would do that with fear of it being stolen.

I'll probably be picking up an iPhone, probably just go with Fido and see if I can mix and match to make my own play.

I'll wait to see what 2.1 does to other peoples iPhones .

Anyways, it was a bit meh: - Drop 80GB + 160GB for 120GB just because they wanted the thickness of the 80GB.

Would have made more sense to just have the 160GB at the 120GB price point - I actually like the nano look.

They did it to basically compete with the Zunes smaller form. - touch updates were alright, nothing new. - Every bloody damn rumor was TRUE!!!

Apple is losing it's touch with keeping everything secret. - They added the remote to the $29 headphones as well, oh yeah....

Doesn't work with older generation iPods . - They got rid of so many settings in iTunes 8 it's not even funny.

The general tab is now half the size and you can't get rid of the arrow beside songs that links to the music store. All in all, meh....

Just because all the rumors were true.

All the Genius tab in the new iTunes does is recommend you music?

Quote: : All the Genius tab in the new iTunes does is recommend you music?

Yes, isn't it great that you get something to tell you what music you should listen to?

Reminds me that I need a new iPod...

I've had mine for like 3 years now.

Quote: : Yes, isn't it great that you get something to tell you what music you should listen to?

LOL. Damn. Thought the update was gonna be all kinds of crazy ****, but..

Not so much.

Quote: : LOL. Damn. Thought the update was gonna be all kinds of crazy ****, but..

Not so much. So did I.

It's like, cool HD TV Shows...

Oh wait Apple doesn't care about giving good TV Shows to Canadians.

More Pics for your viewing pleasure. Im thinking of getting the new 8gb Nano in red for $150 I only have 6.5gb of music anyway and the screen is too small for me to want to watch videos so i would only put music in there so it should be enough until the 32gb touch becomes $200.

The $199 16GB nano isn't looking too bad..

Might get that for christmas.

I haven't had any problems with mine, except for a few minor ones.

Over all I am very happy with my phone.

I do wish they had a 60GB or more to choose from because I have less than half of my music and videos on my phone.

I want an iPod. I am thinking about getting the new Nano or the new iPod Touch.

I think I will end up getting the touch, but I want you guys to help me decide.

Is the touch a good music player, is it easy to do?

Is the Nano better and easier to use.

They both look cool, just don't know which one to get.

I'm kind of tired of all the new iPods they keep coming out with.

Its nice to get a updated better one maybe every 3-5 years but almost every year they have to release a new one.

Wow! Its round...er!

Great! I want to spend another $200 just so I can be cool! I like iPods, but come on!

Stop releasing them because they just have a new look.

At least give them some more features or something worthwhile to buy.

3-5 years? Your kidding me right?

The updates are nope suppose to get everyone to re-buy an iPod, they do it to try to get new customers over.

Flash memory is becoming cheaper, there going to update them again next year with larger sizes.

Pretty meh all round.

Itunes doesn't change the fact that itunes is a piece of **** so no ipod touch for me

Yeah I haven't bought an iPod in my life yet.

Currently I have a Sandisk Sansa but now I think it's time to upgrade. Man those nano's are sexy.

It would be great for my jogging too!

Overall, I'm very unimpressed with Apples new releases.

They put a new case on the iPod nano and put an iPod touch like GUI on it, added a few gimmicks, nothing to great.

They did some small additions to the iPod Touch and dropped the price.

And they dropped the price and added a new size, while getting rid of the other sizes, to the iPod classic. Nothing that is really driving me to get an iPod rather than a Zune as my next MP3 player purchase.

I just ordered my Zune 120 from Amazon.

I am stoked!

$79 inner-ear headphones?

Talk about more overpriced apple gimmicks.

Without the brand name I guarantee you they'd be no more than $25 max

Of course that is hoping for the best.

Kinda dumb that they don't support the iPhone with the new headphones released.

Does that make sense to anyone?

Bose has the most average sounding IEMs for $100, ever.

Go to Head-Fi.org and see what type of real headphones $100 can get you. Quote: : Kinda dumb that they don't support the iPhone with the new headphones released.

No, it doesn't. They should have at least made a version with a mic built-in.

Just downloaded the iphone 2.1 update and seems good so far, my 3g signal is definetly better.

In my room it used to be 2 bars and now it is full. Quote: : Kinda dumb that they don't support the iPhone with the new headphones released.

What do you mean does not support the iphone?

If you mean it doesn't fit they don't need to do that for the 3g iphone.

I should have said that the remote and mic don't work on the iPhone.

In Ear Headphones.

I don't understand why the hell the remote and mic don't work with an iPhone .

From their recent updates.

I would want to buy the Nano and Headphones for school.

I just don't care to bring my 3G White 16gb iPhone down to my school.

I will probably buy the 16GB Nano and the Headphones depending on how much money I have after Christmas.

The bulk of my money will be going to an apple laptop. I love apple products, I have had the following so far: Video Ipod 30GB White: December 2005 Iphone 8GB: December 2007 3G iPhone White 16GB: July 2008 Hopefully the next on the list will be a mac book.

Ive seen one of this the other day at my local apple store.

I own a 30gb zune and having recently getting a hands-on the itouch and the new nano.

I'm beginning to wonder where is microsoft now and what in world are they doing.

The zune 80 is still my choice over the classic because of the radio but if MS wants to compete it has to step up its designs and concepts for the zune.

I don't understand the appeal of an iPod touch.

If you own a laptop, it is relatively useless. Because of this, I don't feel that Microsoft needs a touch-like device.

They are already beating the Classic, feature for feature with the Zune 120, they don't need to get into the touch's realm.

I like the touch, it's not like I'm going to bring my laptop with me on the go for listening to music and watching movies.

I still wonder when Apple is going to be getting more competition.

I mean, Microsoft isn't that big yet in the market.

I can't imagine anything topping the Ipod now.

They have so much support and they keep up with new tech and innovations. Quote: : I don't understand the appeal of an iPod touch.

It is easier to casually turn on and carry around a touch/iphone than a laptop.

It has nothing to do with that, if I am watching movies or listening to music, I will bring around my Zune, but the touch's main selling point is the internet capability.

There are cheaper alternatives to the touch if you are just watching movies and listening to music. Whenever I am in a WiFi hotspot, I will most likely have my laptop with me.

The touch was pointless for me.

I spend most of my time at my High School, I bring my laptop there.

There is no reason for me to bring the touch around when a laptop is much faster and much more capable overall. Quote: : I can't imagine anything topping the Ipod now.

Like how they have kept the same exact functionality in the Classic for 3 years?

They haven't made one thing different except for Hard drive size and battery life. Quote: : It is easier to casually turn on and carry around a touch/iphone than a laptop.

I find it to be a pain in the *** to type on that screen without any feedback.

Perhaps that is why it is called a ipod classic. and you get feedback of awesomeness on the keyboard.

Hopefully the headphones won't be a piece of crap like the ones that came with my iPhone 3G.

One of them rumbles allot and distorts, I just thump it and it goes back to working.

Very annoying though.

Quote: : Perhaps that is why it is called a ipod classic.

They can't release the same product over and over again. Quote: : and you get feedback of awesomeness on the keyboard.

I get tactile feedback on a laptop keyboard, I get frustration, not feedback, when I use the touch or iPhone.

My main problem with the old Touch was the lack of an external speaker.

I did not want it for blasting rap, but when you want to show someone something on youtube or play a song for them, it is easier than handing them my earbuds (which I would never do).

As a result, you needed to plug it into the aux input of a radio or amp to get sound.

That being said, it is still not worth getting a new Touch to replace my 16GB that I already own.

I am waiting for them to get to at least 80GBs before I upgrade. I also will not be replacing my 160GB ipod classic with the 120GB version.

Quote: : I am waiting for them to get to at least 80GBs before I upgrade.

You're gonna be waiting quite a while, to have that much flash memory will cost something near 1000 dollars. But with the way flash memory works is that it always doubles.

So from the current amount of storage on the touch, 32 gigs, the next will be 64, and then 128,and then 256, and so on and so on.

So 128 gigs for a touch at a reasonable price is what you are gonna be waiting for.

Enjoy your wait

I bet it is a lot cheaper than what they sell it for.

There is a reason SSD hasn't replaced mechanical drives yet and it isn't becasue we are all used to mechanical drives.

The **** is damn expensive.

I agree, the tech isn't cost competitive yet.

You sacrifice space for reliability though, Hard disks fail much earlier than flash in an MP3 player or any high stress/shock environment.
