Wheatly (monday) - Ohio Game Fishing Community

Hi, Fished with Frank T(Turski)from Monroe Mi.Started out Southwest and Ended up east of harbor in front of the Windmills.Fish were spread out over large area.Morning was bad but in the afternoon Frank got them going on the Riggers at 2o down and sliders.

4 fish off the Riggers all on sliders.I got them going on a #0 dipsy on 2 out 40ft.Hot spoons had pink and orange and Denver Bronco did good.It was our first trip together and alot of fun.

Hey thanks for the info.

Hope to get over there Friday ?

Been checking reports on WC also !!

Can't wait !

Ill be over there bullet fishing July 19th to 27th if anyone wants an up to the minute report try to ring me up on the radio, 68 or 71.

I'm new to the site, but I've been reading your posts all summer, thanks for all the help.

I live south of Cleveland but fish mostly out of Port Clinton.

This is my second year fishing Erie (I'm a transplanted Lake Michigan troller).

I'm really trying to learn how to catch walleye and steelhead off of Cleveland (closer to home), your posts have been great in educating me, now all I have to do is move my boat east and give it a try.

One quick question, how long does the walleye and steelhead bite in the central basin last? Here's my report from last weekend: First trip for me to Wheatley.

Went over from Port Clinton on Saturday after the storms had passed.

Fished from 7 to 9:30pm on Sat.

Fished east of harbor off of the 1st set of windmills in 60 FOW.

Saturday evening;

5/6 on steel and one walleye.

Watermellon Stingers and Double Orange Crush down 20' on the riggers caught most of the fish.

Sunday slightly different program, 11/19 on steel and one more bonus walleye, all but 1 steelie on dipsies or in line boards, trolled riggers all day but only caught 1 fish, down 35'.

Dipsies #3 setting, 30 back, In line boards, 1 oz weight, back 100 from board.

Watermellon Stingers, Sliver Rainbow Stingers, Baby Brown Trout pattern was also productive.

5/9 fish that were lost either broke the flourocarbon leader or busted apart the swivel.

Fish were really hitting agressively.

On a dispy set 30' back, some of the fish were clear out of the water before we knew we had them hooked, it was really exciting. The ride back Sunday afternoon was exciting too but in a totally different way, a bumpy 40+ miles, left the dock about 5:00pm Saturday and returned by 7:00pm Sunday, pretty good 26 hours, well worth the trip. Thanks again for your posts and info.

I plan on hitting some of you up for more info once I move my boat east.

Hi, Launched from Avon Ohio.Stopped at the 51/54 line and saw alot of marks and some Bait.Fished there for about a hour and had no hits.Moved to the 52/54 line saw a lot of more marks but no bait, did not fish.Moved to the 54/54 line and saw a lot of marks same as other stops and no bait.Decided and to fish.Hooked a Steelie right away.Thermocline was at 45 to 50 ft (54Degrees) surface was 74Degrees.We were 21 for 26 on steelies and 19 walleyes for three guys.Released the extra fish.Riggers at 46 ft 40 back.Dipsys at 120 on three and 90 on 1.Caught Walleyes and Steelies at same depths.Spoons were mostly ones that we had taped up.2 steelhead and some Walleyes were caught on a new glow thunderstick.Well the Limit changes on Saturday so here are the numbers. N4154.169 W08153.471 N4154.640 W08153.872 You fish at these numbers you should catch Fish. 29 miles from Avon to the Hole May I be fishing somewhere Tomorrow This is pasted from Walleye Central

Hi, that was on Aug 30 2007

Marc, Thanks for the info...that answers some questions about where and how long into the season the bite continues.

I'm thinking of going out of Geneva or Ashtabula this weekend with some purple spoons. Where are the best places to launch in Ash.

And Geneva? Thanks again

Marc, nice job at the hole.

Nice to see we still have steelies in Ohio waters.

Hi Hawkeye, That was a report from last year Mike.
