TMNT: Back to the Sewer - NeoGAF

So has anyone watched this?

I like the new look.

Here is the intro if you missed it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-x6vgYo3dA It was a good first episode.

Actually I caught a few episodes of this, it was ok.

Definitely no Silver Hawks, but decent.

Still the best http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Zc2u5-h540

I definitely did not vote for that theme song.

I like how the theme song is all about "going back to the sewers" but you see them geared up like they're in Tron, figthing Shredder in cyberspace. Oh yeah, Xtreme sports gear was funny too.

I wish action cartoons didn't have to paste on stupid gimmicks after season 3 or so.

God.. just kill the series already.

I just noticed.

Looks pretty shitty.

I'm really not fond of making threads so I'm just gonna say we need an old school cartoon intro appreciation thread.

Meh.

Is television animation that's over ten years old supposed to look exponentially better than brand new stuff?

I say this almost 100% positive my nostalgia isn't influencing my feelings on the matter.

IIRC some of that opening animation is from the first few episodes.

Those episodes were generally of quality as high as that intro.

Kids nowadays are really getting screwed.

There have been dozens over the past months

And one tends to crop up every so often. As for the intro, I don't mind the song, but I think to many people the original will always be the best.

I was partial to the remix when moved to the Action zone.

Kids nowadays are really getting screwed. Holy shit I hadn't seen that in years and years but man I totally agree.

The intro looks amazing and brings back so many good memories.

I did it a few months back http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=316574

Kids nowadays are really getting screwed. You're right on the intro of old school TMNT looking amazing.

But if you watch an actual episode the animation is not up to the intro quality and is generally pretty...ok.

Pretty sure this brand has been in the sewer for awhile now.

Saturday morning cartoons don't get quite the same budget they once did (toy sales in general are quite a bit lower than they used to be, probably cuz of video games), but TMNT is an interesting case.

They got a really high budget for the first four episodes or so, but it was reduced to a more normal level after that.

If you watch the first season you can actually see where the animation takes a major drop.

Then a year or two later they dropped the budget even lower due to TMNT's popularity waning.

At this point the animation becomes absurdly bad. But hey, at least they always had that sweet intro.

Kids nowadays are really getting screwed. Glad to see that I'm not the only one noticing the cheapness of today's cartoons.

No not really watch the Thundercats intro and in looks fantastic, then watch the episodes and it will leave you asking where the hell did the great animation go.

A lot of show back in the 80's had the same great animated intro and a pretty weak animation on the episodes.

The program is only 16 minutes? Wow that is a whole lot of commercials in there.

It was pretty rough to sit through. I was impressed until I watched the end and saw the 'ololz TRON' bullshit.

Argh, I won't even ask how that turned her into the Shredder. I am curious where this goes but it seems like they are trying to mix the funny and seriousness.

I think Segata's got the right idea.

I went back and took a look at a bit of the first episode.

Perhaps my memory was playing tricks on me when it comes to how good the actual episode looked however I still think at times, like the fight scenes, the animation was pretty good for the first few episodes.

I think the animation for the majority of those old shows, while not as good as their intros, was much better than what we see now (with a few exceptions).

Maybe it's the designs or the palette they are using now that makes them look so shitty.

Scooters? Really?

No...just no. Because the Turtles were all always about turning into armored cyber warriors fighting giant computer-enhanced Shredder AIs.

Needs to go back to the sewers, presto

The animation of the opening for Batman: TAS is still the best in my book but yeah, most kid's shows had awesome animation for the start of the show but then nothing ever looked as good as that.

I assume that is why people were excited for CGI openings on Playstation games for it was a throwback to that era.

Wait, didn't we vote for this theme song?

I didn't like the first episode.

As the biggest TMNT fan on this forum I will still be watching as it can't possibly be worse than Fast Forward.

However the animation, attitude, and content will never get better than the first 2003 season.

Baxck to the Sewer?

I thought this was about the Black & White GB game.

The 80's show had the best intro ever, but the 2003 one was a lot better in pretty much everything else, to bad the intro sucked balls. I liked how this intro had a throwback to the old 80's one right before they went all Tron gear. Originally Posted by The-Switcher: No...just no. Eh it's no worse when they fought a wizard from an arcade game

To be fair, the animation style from the 80s TMNT cartoon's intro only lasted through the "1st" and "2nd" seasons, and even in the first 5 episodes the style between episodes was inconsistent, and it had more color-/voice-switching problems than I've seen any other popular cartoon. The style eventually evened out in late Season 2/early 3 but even then it wasn't quite as detailed/fluid as the original few episodes. Fortunately, the great voice-acting and silly writing is what made me love the cartoon.

:P

For some reasone, 4kids showed Fast Forward instead of Back to the Sewer.

Unless they put it on a different time :/

I own ever issue of the comics.

Mirage Vol. 1, 2, 4, Tales Vol.

1-2, Image Vol. 3, Archie.

Went to the opening night for the original film, midnight at the Alamo for TMNT 2007.

I could pull up many other nerd facts.

God, i miss TMNT 2k3.

This is not even in the same league as that.

Oh well, at least it's better than fucking Fast Forward.

:( I am a big turtles fan (maybe not as big as you) but finding the old issues has always been this frustrating hunt... any suggestions? True story: After reading Image's comics I cannibalized my Donatello action figure and put another figure's robot arm on...

And I was 18. :(

You fool! You'll kill us all!

I don't know if anyone watched episode 2 and 3. But they are normal lenght so I guess the premiere was just one off. Secondly, they are establishing a lot of main threats/groups. The second episode was interesting. I don't like where the 3rd one seems to be taking the show though.

SO much fucking better than the 2K3 intro song. Why is the episode on YouTube labeling it "Season 7"? Is this considered part of the same series as TMNT 2K3 and Fast Forward?

Yea it is

I understand the changes they're making.

Mainly just to make it resemble the movie. But...

Fuck, April is horrendous and the pupils are worse.

Why are they designing them to look like Ps1 models? I guess they want it to have a "CG" look or something, I dont know. It looks pretty dumb.
