Al Gore to be sued - :: LEAST I COULD DO FORUM ::

Http://www.citizensugar.com/1093812 Apparently, the founder of the Weather Channel (John Coleman) is suing Al Gore for fraud relating to his claims of global warming.

He feels that Al Gore is feeding a sense of alarmism regarding global warming, which is being furthered by members of his own channel now (IE - some crazy chicka Heidi Cullen wants to revoke the licenses of any meteorologist who doesn't agree with global warming being caused by humans).

OH noeS! They're sueng Al GOE!!! wait..

Thats Al Gore... Shooo...

Thought we had a serious crisis on our hands. Now back to our special presentation of...

Man Bear Pig!

...you do realize the article only states that Coleman "wants" Al Gore to be sued, right?

*pokes QK with a stick* Settle down, Beavis.

Nobody likes a Grammar Nazi, and now that I've edited the post it just makes you look silly anyway

Funniest line in that article: "Coleman rejects the notion that people must take drastic actions to reduce their energy use." Oil is at $100.00 a barrel and we want to fight inflation.

Burning coal/wood is bad for the air that we breathe.

Hydro-electric dams and their basins pretty much destroy Northern Quebec. Even if you ignore/doubt/do not believe/reject the man-made contributions to climate change, the ways that we gather and consume energy are reckless.

From cancer to global politics to lack of drinking water (Hello, Alberta!) we have to find ways to burn energy without crapping where we eat. In my 20s, gas was at 59.9 a litre and that was outrageous.

Yesterday, it was at 1.20 a litre.

Forecasts for the summer are at 1.40/1.50 a litre.

Yes, we have to make it so that energy is cheaper, better, and cleaner.

Suing Al Gore will not make that reality go away.

What's more, you can call him wrong and you can disagree with him but you can't ignore that [people+pollution / time = bad for Mother Nature] in one way or another.

Be it climate change to smog to extinction of fauna to loss of plant-life, we have always left an impact on the ground where we expand.

As the two Ps in that equation keep growing over short amounts of time, we do have to reduce our consumption levels ...

Even if only to continue investment in "home-grown" industries and labour to fuel the "green boom."

4MM: You also fail to mention that it is commonly believed that we've crossed the 50% line for worldwide oil reserves.

If that is true...$100/barrel will be cheap soon.

We will have have to find alternate fuel sources soon, not because of global warming but because we are running out of oil. And you seem to think "reduce their energy use" applies only to oil.

It doesn't. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of things that are allegedly causing global warming - and while oil is one of them, it isn't the only one. I think this lawsuit, if filed, is a great idea.

It will put to the test the "theories" of Al Gore and his cronies about how mankind is causing global warming, especially when opposed by millions of years of evidence of cyclic weather conditions that are both hotter and colder than it is today.

Especially since they only cite 150 years of warming temperatures as their only evidence, and disregard thousands of years of records generated by ice core samples. Am I saying global warming doesn't exist?

No. Am I saying mankind isn't contributing to global warming?

No. Am I saying mankind isn't the only cause of global warming?

Hells yes. I seem to recall a study conducted some time ago (I must look for it again) that said the methane produced by cows is more damaging to the environment than humans burning fossil fuels. Save the Earth.

Eat a cow.

So then intentionally breeding more cows and keeping them all in one place would be a bad thing and a man made problem?

Eat a cow. I'll try harder to connect the dots.

Eating cows raises demand for cows which will in turn cause breeders to raise the supply.

Good work.

If nothing else, this will bring the problem greater media attention and people might start to care a little more. Yeah, I know it's a lot to ask for... "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.

The mediocre mind is incapable of understanding the man who refuses to bow blindly to conventional prejudices and chooses instead to express his opinions courageously and honestly." - Albert Einstein, 1940 Quote: ...

Fucking DIV!

About the cows, it doesnt sound very relevant.

I mean, the gas they let out is from stuff that is already in the cycle up here (its from the food they eat).

The problem with the oil is the fact that its adding in a surplus of gases, on top of that which is naturally part of the cycle up here.

I'm sorry, a lawsuit against Al Gore would be ridiculous.

First, it would never survive a 12b6 motion, which is to say, a lack of grounds upon which relief could be granted.

Additionally, how would the founder of the weather channel even have standing to sue?

There's no "harm" to him in Al Gore's statements or position regarding global warming.

Finally, there are First Amendment concerns.

Do we really want to live in a country where you can get sued for standing up for a position you believe in? This post has been edited by Daderga: Mar 10 2008, 09:08 AM

Shouldn't we sue him for inventing the internet first?

He invented that before he invented "global warming". In the 70's they were pushing "global cooling".

Remember that? Most of you won't.

I do. I know that what man does is bad for the environment and must be changed.

Until there is real scientific proof I'll remain skeptical about "global warming".

I've already been through one "climate change" in my life and Al Gore and the people pushing his agenda without proof are little more than Nazis forcing an idea down our collective throats. Using the term "global warming" to effect a change on man's habits at this point is like, well isn't it lying without PROOF?

They have 150 years of records showing a warming trend.

And that is what the consider concrete evidence of global warming.

Yet they ignore thousands of years of records showing a cyclic pattern from ice core samples.

They're just picking and choosing their evidence, blasting anyone who cites the opposing evidence, and trying to scare us into buying their "carbon credits".

Whos they? The scientific community? Yeah why listen to them, you're obviously way more informed. If you disagree with the findings of the IPCC, you're disagreeing with: -The World Meteorological Organization -Australian Academy of Sciences -Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Sciences and the Arts -Brazilian Academy of Sciences -Royal Society of Canada -Caribbean Academy of Sciences -Chinese Academy of Sciences -French Academy of Sciences -German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina -Indian National Science Academy -Indonesian Academy of Sciences -Royal Irish Academy -Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei (Italy) -Academy of Sciences Malaysia -Academy Council of the Royal Society of New Zealand -Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences -Royal Society (UK) But yeah, I'm sure you're way more informed. Yeah...cause you know, 150 years of "evidence" of rising temperatures is far more significant than thousands of years of evidence proving a cyclic trend.

Before this should even be debated...

We really should look into who the head of the weather channel is and what political affiliation he has. Oldest MOD EVER!

No one ever said there wasn't a trend.

Al Gore didn't say there wasn't a 1000 year old trend.

Now I'm not fully backing Al Gore, because he got some things wrong, there was some serious propaganda happening (wtf was with that polar bear?) but overall he did a decent job. I can't believe people don't get this...

No one who supports global warming is arguing the earth isn't due for some natural warming, the argument is its happening way too fast. Hence the IPCC's report: "The probability that this is caused by natural climatic processes alone is less than 5%." No one has ever said there isn't a natural process, we're just saying its happening too fast. "I once complained because I had no shoes, then I met a man who had no feet."
