Looks brilliant.
And of course, as much as I dug Christian Bale's performance in Begins, Kevin Conroy is Batman...

Holy mother of god , how the hell can two , what look to be amazing , Batman films be coming out around the same time , one on video and one in the theater , what a time to be a fan of the bat , spoiled doesn't begin to describe this situation .
What we have here is what will most definitely be the penultimate Batman live action incarnation , TDK and it's companion piece , what looks like the best batman animated film ever made in Batman : Gotham Knight .
July is going to be breathtaking , i'm loving this trailer for GK , jesus christmas , couldn't ask for more at this point , i give up , i can't take much more batman greatness right now .

Looks like it could be decent.

Do I have to watch this before watching TDK to understand the movie better?

It'll probably help, but I doubt it's necessary.
It's probably like the Clone Wars cartoon on Cartoon Network in between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.
|
 |
|
I wouldnt worry about seeing this before the dark knight, it will be just a filler to keep the fans tugging their dick at the prospects of batman.
|
 |
I dunno about that but being a Batman and Anime fan, as I am, this is a pretty exciting prospect.
If there was 1 American superhero that would be perfect to cross over to Anime, It's Batman.
I'm pretty excited for this release personally not only because, yes, it builds up the hype machine even higher for The Dark Knight, but considering how much time and effort they're putting into this (Kevin Conroy FTW!) This is going to be great I think.
|
 |
No doubt , dare i say it , this is also looking like a classic , it looks terrific in so many ways .
Perfect melding of content and style .
|
 |
|
Looks amazing, can't wait to see it!
|
 |

That scene in the sewer is pure excellence , and the sound mix sounds fantastic also , the music and the sound effects .
|
 |
|
I'll pass Mr Spam , i want to buy and watch the official copy thank you .

So good so far

Lol

 |

What a genius cross marketing move this film is , but it doesn't look like some cheap throwaway cash in , i need to get this thing yesterday .
|
 |
Favourite stories dead shot or crossfire.
If only these animators made a full length series
|
 |
I actually just reviewed this for one of the sites I write for.
It was a solid film, all in all.
It had its weaker moments (the "Field Test" segment in particular, mostly because Kevin Conroy's voice didn't match up with how Bruce Wayne looked like a sexually-androgynous anime hero), but all in all, it was an entertaining bunch of stories that did Batman thematic justice.
That being said, THE ANIMATRIX easily tops this.

Word. conroy's voice didnt match that episode at all..it was awkward to watch and listen..but yeah..animatrix most def.
Tops this
but...im a batman fan..so 10/10.
Haha.

For some reason, something (maybe narrative?) felt lacking with each of these shorts for me, even together as the one film.
They arent bad by all means, but i dunno, i think its just they pass by two quick for something to actually settle and have any weight.
The ingredients are all there, it's just not a filling meal.
Animation is no doubt, top notch though (and obviously)

The best of the bunch is the last one..
Deadshot.
However as a series, they left me kind of going "Meh."
It's a nice tithe over until the movie comes out though.

Exactly what i thought.
6/10.
Just filler until the movie hits.

"Deadshot" was loads of fun, but I gotta go with "Working Through Pain" as my favorite of the bunch.
|
 |
I bought the Batman Begins Limited gift set instead.
I'll catch this thing when some of my other friends buy it.
|
 |
I really loved it, very entertaining stories, nice animation and some great action, much better than I had hoped.
Good voice work too.
9/10

That's not a strong endorsement.
I'm nervous now

I watched this last week and enjoyed it.
I liked all of the shorts and found myself thinking "Wow, they should do a series like this!" The opening one with the Boondocks-type kids didn't have great animation, but I liked the kids' different takes on Batman (reminded me of TAS episode Legends of the Dark Knight).
My favorite part was when one kid embellishes his story to where Batman cuts off someone's head and everyone else calls bullshit on him.
There is a lot more violence than any Batman cartoon you've seen, with bloody gunshot wounds, a beheading, stabbings, and a nasty operating table scene.
Not bad for PG-13.
A lot of the action is unrealistic;
There's stuff that happens here that would not fly in a normal Batman series, let alone Nolan's world.
The story didn't tie in the films completely.
The only new TDK character was Maroni, and he was just a stock baddie (and got WAY too involved in the action at one point to not be in jail during TDK).
You do see Gordon, Alfred (who sounds a lot like his TAS counterpart), Lucius, and Scarecrow (looks closer to TAS than Begins).
The fear toxin and the Narrows from the first movie are referenced, but there is no mention of Dawes, Dent, or Joker.
I liked how the 2nd to last short (with the guns) seemed to lead directly into Deadshot, and I think the film would have benefited from more of an overall narrative or flow.
It's a solid effort, but considering the talent involved, one would have hoped it would be earth-shattering (guess all of that will be left up to TDK).

In working through the pain anyone understand the ending
batman said something like "i cant" when alfred offered his hand to help pull himself up
was he dying?

*Spoilers for those who haven't seen the film*
I took the ending as a symbol of Bruce Wayne putting so much of himself towards helping others as Batman, he's lost sight of his own sense of safety and self-preservation.
It's not out of a sense of selfishness, but the image of Batman standing there with loads of guns in his arms says that he's really biting off more than he can chew, trying to take on the world when he's only capable of doing so much as one person.

I watched most of this last night , but it was somewhat of a struggle to sit through .
I'll definitely have to watch this thing properly and in it's entirety in order to have a better sense of what i feel about it .
i think it's interesting overall and the animation , at least the majority of it , is some of the best i've seen concerning this style .
Maybe some of the episodes are too short to gain any sort of narrative traction , they are never really given a chance to grow , i got this scattershot feeling watching this .
i know most likely my thoughts will change once i see the whole thing , and i pay a bit more attention as to what's going on , as it is now i'm disappointed , but again , it looks fantastic , and i loved the whole sewer sequence .
That one really stood out for me , but there are many other excellent sequences to be had .
at this point i would easily recommend it , it fleshes out Nolan's take on Batman a bit more , and should be a nice bridge between BB and TDK .

I like adam j's reply..
my take on it is similar to his.
I think it is that, no matter how much pain he puts himself thru, there will always be crime..like they said in the comics, "it's a fools errand." seeing all these guns in the sewer just made him realize that he's a fool...i dont know where im goin with this..haha..but yeah.
it's pretty open ended..that's why i liked that episdoe..

I thought it was because he was holding all of those guns...and he wanted to take them out for whatever reason (give to police?).
Quite literal, but it made sense to me.
Also, i like how it could also be the same thing that the thug from the previous episode "Field test" threw his gun down into.

Well, that too. But can't it be symbolic, dammit?

Well I bought this at Sam's Club Today and may just watch it right now...
I am not a HUGE anime fan...
But this one looked awesome...
I do need to check out the Animatrix too, it is in my Matrix box set, but I have never gotten around to watching it.
|
 |
The Animatrix is pretty good.
More episodes (9) and they're better than Gotham Knight's.
|
 |
Animatrix was more necessary than this.
The Matrix world is very complicated and couldn't be explained in just the trilogy, so Animatrix filled in a lot of gaps (including the war between humans and machines that started everything).
Gotham Knight was just fanservice.
However, I loved it.
I liked it more than Animatrix, even if it didn't serve as significant a purpose.
8/10.
My favorite was the first segment, as it was reminiscent of a classic episode from the Animated series.
|
 |
I would have enjoyed Gotham Knight more if each style of anime, was different just like Animatrix.
But I did enjoy the hell out of it, I enjoyed each story's idea of how Batman appeared to them in their minds.
You really have appreciate the art of story telling and be a Batman fan.

Just wacthed this last night with my filks as we all are gearing up for TDK.
They were not into this as they wanted to be, first off they don't get into anime so that right there was a thumbs 2 thumbs down.
Me, im a huge fan of anime (Gantz being my favorite) and BATMAN being my all time favorite super hero as a kid grwing up into the 80's through 90's.
As i still mwatch BATMAN:TAS I knew this would be awsome foing into this film.
Was that the case for GOTHAM KNIGHT HEL YES!!!
This anime delivered for me.
I was blown away by the fact how much violence and gore thier was in this film.
I never seen a BATMAN film with this much violence and am hopeing we see more of it in TDK.
We see what the scarcrow is up to and am waiting to see him in TDK.
The film looked beautiful and for what it is i enjoyed it and yes kept me wanting more and can't wait for TDK.
Note i watched a rip copy of the dvd and looked fantastic and i bought the Blu-Ray of the film and will watch it as soon as i get my 58" plasma soon.
Overall: a rent for those who wanted to see where batman begins left off and A MUST OWN for any BATMAN FAN.
8.5/10

Pretty cool cover, it's the Japanese release of the Blu-ray, and i'm 90% sure it's a region free disc aswel.
Super.

Well I picked this up last week, but was taking my time with it, watching just a few sections a night.
Two things right off: 1st--it's not what I was expecting, but in a good way.
2nd--thank GOD for Bruce Timm, Andrea Romano and Kevin Conroy for their dedication to this project and Batman in general.
As usual they all bring the goods.
Really though, I think this DVD will especially have casual fans scratching their heads.
The only segment that really seems to reference the recent movies is the sewers segment.
It's kind of cool to see Scarecrow as some twisted messiah, but I'd have liked to see more interaction between him and Batman.
Croc was a bit of letdown.
Again, not enough screentime.
He looked a little weird but I guess they were going for realism so he's not gonna look all scaly and green.
The "Working Through Pain" segment was very poignant, I thought, and further explains Bruce's early years of training.
And of course, the "Deadshot" segment is completely stunning, really worth the price of this DVD alone, and sums up what they seemed to be trying to do with this project very nicely.
Next, I would love to see Bruce Timm and company adapt one of the comic stories for a non-Anime DVD project.
"Killing Joke"? "Long Halloween"?
Actually, it'd be cooler to see the collected Halloween stories of Loeb/Sale (the Scarecrow one, the Mad Hatter one and the Charles Dickens-esque "Ghosts" Halloween stories) adapted into animation.
|
 |
This was kind of cool, just didn't blow me away.
It felt kind of short and only two real segments stuck out in my mind, Deadshot and In Darkness Dwells.
It was a good thing to watch in anticipation for TDK.
7/10
