AMD vs. Intel Relative Speed Info Req'd. - Free Hosting & Domain Names. Making Money Online.
Hi,
can anyone tell me which of the following two CPUs is likely to be the fastest - I've tried looking at various sites, but can't seem to find both on any one list.
1) AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dualcore 2.40Ghz
2) Intel Pentium Dualcore E2200 2.2 GHz
I'm in the process of replacing the CPU/Motherboard in my mother's computer, and would like to know if one of these CPUs is appreciably faster than the other.
Thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

I'm thinking the AMD is faster, but this is coming from an AMD fanboy.
I believe that AMD>Intel's pentiums but Intel's C2D's>AMD.
If they're the same price, there shouldn't be much difference in speeds anyways.

Amd benchmarked much higher than Intel during the Pentium 4 era, and was also much cheaper.
At this moment with the dual cores and Quad cores, Amd has some catching up to do as intel processors currently benchmark much higher then their latest.
The Intel Pentium Dualcore is a alright cpu, i'm currently using it myself.
However, i would look at the Core Duo or Core 2 Duo.
