Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden has departed from the party line and said that as a Catholic, he believes life begins at conception.
In an interview on Meet the Press on Sunday, the Senator from Delaware said of abortion-rights advocates in his party: They believe in their faith and they believe in human life, and they have differing views as to when life Im prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at the moment of conception.
Bidens statement comes in sharp contrast to a recent comment by his presidential running mate Barack Obama.
In an interview with the Rev.
Rick Warren last month, Obama dodged a question about when life begins, saying determining that was above my pay grade.
Obama on Sunday told ABC News that remark was too flip, adding: All I meant to communicate was that I dont presume to be able to answer these kinds of theological questions.
The two candidates comments on abortion came after the Republicans nominated Sarah Palin as their vice presidential nominee.
The New York Times observed that Palins anti-abortion stance and decision to give birth just five months ago to a baby with Down syndrome have revved up the conservative base of her party.

Conception.
I think vicariously experiencing pregnancy and childbirth gave me a different perspective on unborn babies.
Hard for me to conclude that life doesn't begin in the womb.
It's difficult to draw some arbitrary line too (e.g., life begins at viability).

It's not a person until I have to start paying for it's stuff.
If a mother doesn't get good prenatal care, is she causing child endangerment?
Can she go to jail for losing the baby because she did something stupid?

I care when it ends.
To me, fetuses are the most worthless of human life b/c they haven't done anything.
Name me one industrious fetus.
No value added there.

They just exude joie de vie.
You just want to hang with them and play Trivial Pursuit all night long.
You know what bugs me about them?
If you're so pro-life, do me a favour - don't lock arms and block medical clinics.
If you're so pro-life, lock arms and block cemeteries.
Let's see how committed you are to this idea.

I want to see pro-lifers with crowbars at funerals opening caskets - "get out!" Then I'd be really impressed by their mission.
