NFL Forum :: - My first attempt at a First Round Mock

1) Kansas City Chiefs - QB Sam Bradford, Oklahoma. -After one of the Chiefs worst seasons in franchise history, they clean house.

With a new coaching staff, and a new General Manager, they start things off by taking their franchise QB with the first pick overall.

Sam Bradford distances himself from other top Qbs, such as Matthew Stafford and Josh Freeman, by having another stellar season and by also taking home the Heisman.

Fans in KC rejoice, as they finally have their QB of the future, making the AFC West one of the best young QB divisions with Cutler, Rivers and Russell. 2) Detroit Lions - DE Michael Johnson, Georgia Tech. -With the Matt Millen era finally coming to and end in Detroit, the Lions, like the Chiefs are looking to start over.

While there may be more proven players still on the board, Michael Johnson is a freak of nature at the DE position, and his potential is just to good to pass up. 3) St Louis Rams - OT Michael Oher, Ole Miss. The Rams desperately need to find a replacement for Orlando Pace, and what better way to do it by taking my number one rated offensive player.

At number 3, Oher is a steal for the Rams, who couldn’t stop a two year old girl from sacking their QB.

Oher is as sure fire as it gets, and he won’t be a bust. 4) Miami Dolphins - DE/OLB George Selvie, South Florida. -This is a sure-fire pick.

The Dolphins already know that they are going to pick Selvie, it’s a done deal.

It’s a perfect fit.

Selvie has already proven that he is the ELITE pass rusher in this draft, and he draws constant double teams.

Selvie would be a monster in Miami’s 3-4 scheme as a rushing LB, and Bill Parcels knows what a linebacker with pass-rushing skills can do (LT and DeMarcus Ware.) 5) Atlanta Falcons - OT Andre Smith, Alabama -The Falcons decide to take the big mauler from Alabama and place him at RT to form one of the best young offensive lines in the NFL, with Sam Baker and Dahl.

Atlanta is doing everything possible to protect their 70 million dollar investment in Matt Ryan, by building around him with a talented young offensive line and a strong running game with Turner and Norwood. 6) Cincinnati Bengals - RB Chris Wells, Ohio State. -The Bengals do not have a running game whatsoever.

Even though their O-Line is in shambles, they take their home-grown Ohio native Chris Wells.

Beanie will make an instant impact and bring back the exciting Cincinnati offense that we are so accustomed to seeing.

The Bengals were in love with Oher, but couldn’t make a trade in time and settles for the BPA. 7) San Francisco 49ers - WR, Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech. -After another disappointing season, the 49ers finally fire Mike Nolan.

But taking his place is none other than Mike Martz himself, the offensive scientist.

Martz will look to build on his offense by taking the number one WR in the draft, Crabtree.

Michael Crabtree will put up beastly numbers in a pass happy offense like the one Martz runs, showing the world that his numbers at Tech weren’t inflated. 8 Cleveland Browns - CB, Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State. -After another season where teams pass all over the Browns, Cleveland finally decides to address the problem by drafting the best CB in the draft.

The Browns would’ve liked to get a rush linebacker here, but with Selvie already gone, they address another need.

Jenkins has all the tools to be a certified shutdown corner in this league, and will step right in and immediately help out the browns defense. 9) Baltimore Ravens - ILB/MLB, Rey Maualaga, USC -If I’m not mistaken, Ray Lewis’ contract is up after this season and I don’t see him resigning with the team, instead choosing to sign with a contending team.

The Ravens draft his replacement who’s name also happens to be Rey.

Maualaga would flourish in Rex Ryan’s hybrid 3-4/4-3 defense, and would instantly become the front-runner for DROY. 10) Houston Texans - S, William Moore, Missouri. -Houston gets their first big name safety in franchise history.

Houston is ecstatic that Moore fell to them at number 10 overall, as they were targeting him all along.

Moore is big, strong and fast and has excellent cover skills and is sure tackler.

He will be another young defensive stud that Houston has on their card. 11) Chicago Bears - QB, Matthew Stafford, Georgia. -Kyle Orton steps in and does an admirable job, but it becomes clear that he is not the guy that will lead this team back to greatness.

The only reason Stafford slips out of the top ten is only because of need.

Matt has an arm like no other, and would instantly step in and start for the bears.

The knock on Matt has to do with his decision-making ability but he silences his doubters after a great 08 campaign, leading the Bulldogs to the SEC Championship game. 12) Washington Redskins - OT, Eugene Monroe, Virginia. -The Redskins have one of the oldest offensive lines in the NFL, I think all of their starters are older than 30 if I’m not mistaken.

This pick is perfect because they go with a need and also what may be the BPA in Monroe.

Eugene projects to be a stud in the NFL, he has all of the tools of what it takes to be a top-flight lineman. 13) Oakland Raiders - WR, Jeremy Maclin, Missouri. -JaMarcus Russell literally has nobody to throw the ball too, way to many check downs and screens with nobody to stretch the field.

Javon Walker turns out to be a huge FA bust, so the Raiders take the best WR on the board.

Al Davis loves himself some speed, and Maclin has plenty of it.

Maclin would also provide a spark in the return game, as the Raiders have really had no threat in the return game since Phillip Buckhannon. ***KC Traded TE Tony Gonzalez to Philly during the 2008 season for this first round pick, which Philly received from Carolina last year.*** 14) KC (From Philly) MLB, James Laurinaitis, Ohio State. -The Chiefs continue stocking their defense with potential young studs.

Like his father, James Laurinaitis is an “animal” He flies around the football field and makes all kinds of plays.

The knock on James has been that he is incapable of shedding blocks, but this is the perfect situation for him with KC having drafted Big Tank Tyler and Big Glenn Dorsey in consecutive drafts to eat up blockers.

James will be an immediate upgrade here and he replaces Pat Thomas. 15) Seattle Seahawks - OG, Duke Robinson, Oklahoma. -The Seahawks have yet to find a serviceable replacement at guard since Steve Hutchinson left in 06.

Mike Wahle is a solid player, but Duke Robinson is better than him, simply put.

Robinson is a great prospect and will help Seattle out a lot in the run game. 16) Minnesota Vikings - TE, Jermaine Gresham, Oklahoma -With Tavaris Jackson benched, the Vikes would like to get their QB of the future here but don’t want to reach for one.

Instead, they take the best TE in the draft in Gresham.

Gresham is an explosive player at the TE position, and I draw comparisons to Vernon Davis.

Jermaine Gresham in a huge upgrade over the disappointing Shiancoe and will give the Vikes another game breaker, to go along with Peterson. 17) Tampa Bay - WR, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Maryland. -With no real big-time threats in the passing game, the Bucs take Heyward-Bey off the board.

Joey Galloway has been carrying the passing game for too long, and now he will have himself some help in Bey.

DYB is a big, physical target for whoever Jon Gruden will have throwing the ball.

His presence will definitely be felt in the red zone where he is at his best. 18 Buffalo Bills - C, Alex Mack, California. -With no real pressing needs, the bills select one of the better center prospects in the draft in the last ten years.

Mack is a great leader and a dominating center, who will be a long time anchor on Buffalo’s offensive line to go along with Jason Peters.

The bills sure do love themselves some pac-10... 19) Jacksonville Jaguars - OG, Phillip Loadholt, Oklahoma. -The Jags have been tormented by injuries thus far on their offensive line, which has had a major effect on both their struggling running and passing games.

Loadholt is a giant at 6’8, 340.

He is a dominant run blocker on an Oklahoma offensive line that is filled with talent, as he had the highest run-grade on the team at 75%.

This is a no brainier for Del Rio, as he looks to get the running game back to it’s dominant form. 20) New England Patriots - CB, Vontae Davis, Illinois. -I’m predicting that Davis’ stock drops before the 09 draft as evidenced by his late selection, I have to see more on him but so far I am impressed.

Davis is the BPA at this point and will step in and help an average Patriot secondary.

Davis is quick, is not afraid to be physical and is versatile meaning that he will fit plenty of different schemes. 21) Denver Broncos - S, Taylor Mays, USC. -Taylor Mays is another one of those no brainier picks for the Broncos.

The Broncos have hands down the worst starting safety unit in the entire NFL, and Mays will step in and become and instant starter.

Mays is big, quick and won’t hesitate to lay the boom, something the Denver desperately needs to add to their porous defensive unit. 22) Arizona Cardinals - RB, Knowshawn Moreno, Georgia. -The Cardinals definitely need a replacement for the aging and declining Edgerin James.

While Tim Hightower is a promising young rookie, he simply does not possess the talent that Moreno has.

Moreno is a small, compact RB but still brings the wood.

Knowshawn Moreno and Tim Hightower will team up and give the Cards a dynamic running game to go along with their amazing passing attack. 23) New York Jets - ILB, Brandon Spikes, Florida. -Brandon Spikes is an ideal fit for a 3-4 defensive scheme.

He has great instincts, size and speed.

Spikes along with David Harris would form a good, young line backing duo for the Jets.

Eric Barton is productive but is aging, and Spikes would give him a run for his money in training camp next year. 24) New Orleans Saints - DE, Tyson Jackson, LSU. -I think the Saints will draft a lot of secondary players in the later rounds of the draft, but here they go with their hometown phenom, Tyson Jackson.

Jackson is a big DE at 6’5 290 but he is a very good pass rusher, something that the Saints lack on their D-Line.

Because of his size, Jackson can be used all over the field at DE, DT and I heard that he can even stand up at times if needed.

He is a guy that has a lot of potential and I think the Saints take him here. 25) Tennessee - WR, Percy Harvin, Florida. -Harvin just might be the most explosive player in this entire draft.

He is an all around player, catching, running, returning you name it.

The Titans take him off the board here and give Vince Young a nice weapon to work with. 26) New York Giants - OLB, Sean Weatherspoon, Missouri. - The Giants fill a need and get the BPA with Weatherspoon.

SW could potentially rise into the top 15 but for now, I have him going to the Giants.

Weatherspoon has had a great year so far, and his sock will only keep rising if he can keep it up. 27) Indianapolis Colts - DT, Sen'Derrick Marks, Auburn. -DT is a huge need for the Colts, as they have just parted ways with their best one in Ed Johnson.

Marks is a great fit for this cover 2 type of defense, he will step in right away and start for the Colts from day one. 28 Green Bay Packers - CB, Victor “Macho” Harris, Virginia Tech. -With Al Harris’s career in jeopardy with a spleen injury, the Packers draft his replacement.

Harris is a big, physical corner that has exceptional speed., and added value in the return game.

He fits Green Bay’s one-on-one style of play, and would learn from one of the best in Charles Woodson. 29) San Diego Chargers - NT/DT Terrence Cody, Alabama. -San Diego finally drafts the aging Jamal William’s replacement in Cody.

At 6’6 380, Cody is a man among boys and his play on the field proves it.

This is his first year in the SEC, being a JUCO Transfer but he has already made a furious impact.

I expect his stock to rise tremendously, but this is where I have him at now. 30) Philadelphia - S, Myron Rolle, Florida State. - I’m predicting that Brian Dawkins calls it a career after a long stint with the Eagles.

Replacing him will be Myron Rolle.

Rolle is a smart and gifted young leader of FSU’s defensive backfield.

It will take him some time to develop but he’s going to be a good one for the Eagles. 31) Pittsburgh - OT, Ciron Black, LSU. -Pitt gets real lucky here and the last first round worthy offensive tackle drops to them at 30.

Black has not missed a game yet, he is very well rounded as his pass blocking matches the intensity of his run blocking ability.

This is a steal for Pitt right here. 32) Dallas - WR, Kenny Brit, Rutgers. -The Cowboys grab Tony Romo another weapon to work with.

Britt is very underrated and doesn’t play on a big stage like a lot of the other top names, but he is damn good.

Britt has the size, speed combination to eventually turn into an all pro.

This is the perfect place for him to go. Last edited by SilverNBlackFan on Thu Sep 25, 2008 10:49 am;

I think drafting a C that high isn't a good idea.

Give the Bills Spikes or Cushing in the 1st.

If Mack is available in the early 2nd or so the Bills can trade up to get him or get Cauldwell from alabama in the 3rd.

GO BILLS

Love the Ravens pick.

However, Ray Ray isn't going anywhere, trust me.

We're not going to let the leader of our defense and team as a whole just walk to another team.

That said, I still believe Rey Maualuga is a great addition, and can learn well from Ray, and possibly start from day 1 if Bart Scott leaves (if any LB walks, it will be him, but he has also said he's a Raven for life no matter what it takes).

Not hating the Bradford pick but am curious as to why him over Stafford? Thanks for ryknowsd for the awesome sig Flowers and Carr coming to shut down WR's near you

Quote: : not hating the Bradford pick but am curious as to why him over Stafford? I have him a hair over Stafford, because I think he makes better decisions and takes care of the ball better, something the Chiefs need right now.

Stafford is great, but I am just feeling Bradford a little more right now but that may change in a couple weeks

Terrible Bengals pick.

Chris Perry has shown that with a good performance out of the offensive line, he can be a pretty good RB.

RB is not a top five need, in my opinon. The offensive line has to be taken care of first, at both LT & OC.

Give us Eugene Monroe there.

If crabtree goes to San Fran, that would send shivers down my spine.

The mad scientist would have a field day with Crabtree

We would never give up a first for tony he is too old to warrant such a pick. Safety in the first?

Not going to happen.

We'll give Demps a shot at FS and we already have Mikell a good SS.

Great NYG Pick. LB looks to be the round 1 pick next year. ^Big ups to skaterbirdhouse^ Giants Forum Wide Pick'em: {36-24} Pick'em Pts.

Love the pick of Spikes, he would definitely be our cover ILB in our 34 scheme next to Harris.

Plus, Barton's contract is up after this season so we will need another impact ILB anyway whether he returns or not.

Only problem I have is that you have Tyson Jackson going right after our pick, and if he is still around in the first I can't see how we would pass him up.

We desperately need another impact DE to rotate in with our starters, and eventually he would take over for Ellis.

So while I love the Spikes pick, I think Jackson is a much better fit for us in the first round.

Ew gross lions pick give them Oher.

Great Raiders pikc bro

I was massive on Taylor Mays before the start of the season, and I was told to not buy into the hype, and I get the feeling these people who told me were right.

However, you nailed the position of need, and I still wouldn't complain if we got Mays.

Trading the 14th overall pick for Tony Gonzales = fail Drafting Myron Rolle with Ciron Black available = epic fail
