NFL Forum :: - Darren McFadden
Does McFadden have break away speed?
He got caught from behind by a safety, didn't this guy run a 4.33 at the combine?
Was this just random, or does he actually not have the speed to take it to the house when he has a chance?

The game is played in pads not on a track.
I cannot really say without watching again but the safety will have run about 20yards less than DMC to get to the same point
Quote: : Jets - Darelle revis is there only dependable safety.
Phins?
... horrid line. They lost there only good lineman (Hadnot)
Now, before you flame me, try saying something knowledgeable.

The safety really doesn't have a good angle at all, its pretty much a foot race and Pollard catches him.
McFadden had like a 5 yard cushion and got caught.

Maybe the safety is faster than 4.33

Mcfadden had already busted 2 fairly big runs just minutes before that one - he simply ran out of gas.
Believe me, he has the speed to get away from that defender if he hasn't ran for 30 yards or so a minute previous to the run.

McFadden has turf toe, he was taken out later in the game.
Be careful when you hit the bottle, sometimes it hits back.

A couple of things could factor into this...
1.
Angle of pursuit for the Safety, a good angle could cut of a good chunk of yardage from the pursuit (see Watson catching Champ in the Den-Pats AFC Playoff game)
2.
McFadden running to high- Running to high will slow you down a bit as a RB, Mcfadden looked to upright to really be running at top speeed.
3.
Injury- McFadden had turf toe, dont know for sure at what point he got it or if he had it at that time.

McFadden is just overrated, that's all it is.
Besides, Pollard was given the strength and speed from the combined powers of all the Anti-Tom Brady fans out there after he performed his completely clean and legal hit, so he's now superhuman.

McFadden had/has turf toe.
The same reason why LT barely played, you can see how he accellerates threw the hole instantly then the pain kicked in.
He tried to cruise to endzone but pollard relented.

...you don't know talent when you see it.
Foxxy is one of the elite nickelbacks in the league.
He's likely getting traded to a team he'll start for.
Foxworth traded to Atlanta for a 7th Rounder

Looked to me like he was still going at his speed, just he's slower than you think.
On top of that, we are seeing a potential problem that McFadden may have that could plague him: Fumbles.
2 Fumbles in two games, one lost?
He's just lucky that the fumble on that run where he was chased down flew out of bounds - had it stayed inbounds, Raiders would have lost the ball.
He needs to learn to run in pads, and to hold onto the ball.

The Turf Toe is just an excuse, he was caught from behind in College by Ali Highsmith, who ran a 4.9 at the combine.
As someone else said the game is played in Pads.

That wasn't ali highsmith it was chad jones who runs a 4.4.
