NFL Forum :: - Make Your 25 Man Roster
I got the idea from the NBA counterpart, so here's the rules, adjusted to fit the NFL:
Quote: : RULES
The main rule is you are only allowed to select players that have entered the NFL since you have joined FF.
You SHOULD, THOUGH NOT MANDATORY, give explanations for EACH player and why you picked them.
The amount of players you select from each Draft Class that has entered the NFL since you have joined FF must be equal.
(For example, I am eligible to select any players from the 2006, 2007, and 2008 Draft Classes, however, I am only allowed to select a maximum of four players from each draft class.
If the only Draft Classes that you are eligible to pick from are 2007 and 2008 then you are only allowed to select a maximum of six players from each draft.
Etc., Etc.)
DON'T COPY ANYONES TEAM, BE ORIGINAL, DAMNIT (you can have a couple of the same players but let's not see TOO MANY of the same players picked by each other or else it won't be that fun to look at all of the rosters)

how can you only select 4 from each draft class if you are supposed to have 25 players?
That would only give you 12 since you can pick from 3 draft classes?
Not being a smart - jus curious of how to do this???

QB - Brady Quinn (2007, Browns): I understand most rate Russell as the best QB drafted in either year.
I'm picking Quinn somewhat to be unique but mostly because I think he's a relatively safe choice.
No 2007 QB has really proven himself as a starter, and Russell is a boom-or-bust type.
Quinn, while he might not be as spectacular as Russell could be, feels like a bit more of a safe pick to me because of his wealth of college starting experience and that he had more than one successful NCAA season (Russell made his money almost entirely as a senior).
RB - Adrian Peterson (2007, Vikings): This is a no-brainer.
Peterson is the best back to come out of college since Tomlinson.
He started breaking records right out of the gate and if he can stay healthier than he did throughout college, he'll continue to amaze spectators and frustrate defensive players for years to come.
FB - Owen Schmitt (2008, Seahawks): I really like him as a prospect.
He might take a while before he cracks the lineup considering Leonard Weaver is a quality fullback, but Schmitt is an old-school specimen at FB;
A smashmouth, prototypical lead blocker who can average 3 yards a carry in short yardage situations.
WR - Calvin Johnson (2007, Lions): The prize gem of 2007's draft, Johnson has incredible measurables and had outstanding production as a Junior at Georgia Tech.
He showed signs of his brilliant athleticism in 2007 as a rookie, but was somewhat underutilized in Mike Martz' offense, which more highly values quickness and agility than size and strength.
He didn't deliver on his promise immediately as Randy Moss did, but he still gave fans every reason to be optimistic about his future.
WR - Devin Thomas (2008, Redskins): To me, Thomas was the best receiver to come out in 2008.
He's no Calvin Johnson, but would make an excellent split end complement to Johnson on any team.
He has very good deep speed and had a very productive Junior year before declaring in 2008.
TE - Dustin Keller (2008, Seahawks): Keller was a surprise as the first draft pick at his position in 2008.
I really like his athletic capabilities and think he'll be well-utilized with young Kellen Clemens at QB, as developing QBs tend to look toward the center of the field for a big target pretty often.
He has good upside and can develop into a very solid safety valve for Clemens in the future.
LT - Joe Thomas (2007, Browns): The guy made a Pro Bowl as a rookie, and that's pretty impressive.
He's a great finesse blocker and, while he doesn't have the power 2008 #1 pick Jake Long possesses, he can more than handle himself in the run game as well (see: Jamal Lewis' resurgence).
LG - Ben Grubbs (2007, Ravens): Grubbs was an excellent prospect coming out of Auburn in 2007.
He worked his way into the starting lineup very early on and should make himself a fixture there for many years to come.
2008 will be a test for him with Hall of Fame lock Jonathan Ogden retiring;
I would bet he'll pass with flying colors.
C - Samson Satele (2007, Dolphins): Satele really impressed last year playing with a less-than-perfect team, to say the least.
He was one of the few bright spots for the 'Phins last year and managed to garner praise from several pundits, including Sports Illustrated's Dr.
Z.
RG - Chilo Rachal (2008, 49ers): The first guard drafted in 2008, Rachal is a natural fit at RG and should help contribute immediately, especially in the wake of Justin Smiley's departure.
He should make a good combination with David Baas.
RT - Gosder Cherilus (2008, Lions): Cherilus had an outstanding year in 2006 as Boston College's starting right tackle and then suffered somewhat when he switched to the blindside in 2007.
In Detroit he's being presented an opportunity to move back to his more natural position, and I hope that he's able to succeed in his new role.
DE - Chris Long (2008, Rams): Long has everything from the tremendous collegiate production, to the athletic measurables, to the Hall of Fame pedigree.
He seems destined for greatness and plays the run with just as much tenacity as he rushes the quarterback.
He offers great versatility and can play end, three-technique, or even OLB in a 3-4 alignment.
DE - Vernon Gholston (2008, Jets): He will be playing OLB in the Jets' 3-4 scheme, but he played DE in Ohio State's 4-3 scheme and would project to that position if a 4-3 team had drafted him in the NFL.
He's slightly undersized for the position, but has uncanny athleticism and will be a terror in the NFL if he can eliminate the streakiness he displayed in college.
UT - Glenn Dorsey (2008, Chiefs): Many scouts are lauding Dorsey as the next Warren Sapp, which is no faint praise.
He is an outstanding 3-technique prospect who is loaded with potential, has a non-stop motor, and terrorizes opponents with his surprising athleticism.
NT - Alan Branch (2007, Cardinals): Branch had an oustanding career at Michigan and helped anchor a historically great run defense in 2007.
He went into the offseason as a potential top-five pick but slipped to the 33rd pick in the draft because of questions about his motor and conditioning.
However, it's tough to argue with his body of work in college;
If he can get into better shape he can be a great complement for Darnell Dockett in the desert.
WLB - Keith Rivers (2008, Bengals): Rivers is an outstanding prospect from USC, a school known for producing quality NFL players.
He wore legend Junior Seau's number in college and will hope to replicate his NFL success (good luck, buddy).
He's my pick for defensive rookie of the year in 2008.
MLB - Patrick Willis (2007, 49ers): Quickly becoming one of the league's best MLBs, Willis had an incredibly productive rookie season.
He ran away with DROY honors, made the Pro Bowl as a rookie, and will look to expand on those impressive credentials in 2008.
SLB - Shawn Crable (2008, Patriots): He'll most likely be playing OLB in a 3-4 scheme, but would also make a decent fit there in a 4-3.
He has outstanding speed and can shed blocks very well, so he would make a nice fit lining up over the tight end.
CB - Darrell Revis (2007, Jets): Revis had an outstanding rookie year and easily outclassed Leon Hall and Aaron Ross, both of whom were also selected in the first round.
CB - Dominique Rogers-Cromartie (2008, Cardinals): Another workout freak, Rogers-Cromartie will have the stigma of being a DI-AA player at the next level.
He's an outstanding athlete, this we know: the main question about DRC is whether or not he can adjust to the NFL game when he didn't even compete against high-level opponents in NCAA.
He's a gamble, but if he can have some of the success his cousin Antonio Cromartie has had, then I'd say the reward outweighs the risk.
FS - LaRon Landry (2007, Redskins): Landry is the best safety to be drafted since his departed teammate, Sean Taylor.
He can hit and cover equally well.
SS - Tanard Jackson (2007, Buccaneers): I know he plays free safety, but he can certainly hit like a strong safety.
And since there is very little difference between the strong and free safeties in a Tampa-2 defense, it shouldn't matter which one plays in the box and which remains in coverage.
K - Nick Folk (2007, Cowboys): Dallas' longtime placekicking woes should be over now that Folk has assumed fulltime duties.
The Mike Vanderjagt experiment has been completely forgotten after Folk's 83.9% conversion rate and 131 points in 2007.
P - Daniel Sepulveda (2007, Steelers): The Baylor product had a pretty good rookie year;
What's best about him is that he's very good at covering his own kicks and hits like a linebacker.
KR - Mike Jenkins (2008, Cowboys): Sort of a cheater pick here.
He has top-notch speed that could help him as a returner if need be (not that he'll be handing those duties regularly for the Cowboys).
He doubles as a nickel corner to Revis and DRC.

I joined in January so don't really get that much choice - to avoid just posting all first rounders I will limit myself to 8 first rounders and 8 second/third rounders.
Offense
QB- Chad Henne (2008 Dolpins - 2nd round)
Homer alert!
Possibly but since I am limiting myself to 8 firsts I don't think that Flacco or Ryan are really worth it.
I do not see Brohm or Henne as any downgrade over Ryan/Flacco.
Henne has decent size, strong arm and as much experience as a prospect possibly can.
Plus he plays for my team.
RB- Jonathan Stewart (2008 Panthers - 1st round)
RB- Tashard Choice (2008 Cowboys - 4th round)
Out of the first round running backs this year I only see two as being possibilities for everydown backs, Stewart and Mendenhall.
In the end I went for Stewart because of his slightly better size, with this line he would be ridiculous.
Choice is the best of the non top 3 round RBs
WR- James Hardy (2008 Bills - 2nd round)
WR- Marcus Smith (2008 Ravens - 4th round)
WR- Arman Shields (2008 Raiders - 4th round)
A QBs dream, three 6 feet plus receivers with decent height.
Hardy is the type of player I am surprised did not go in the first round, 6'6" with a good forty time and production in a decent division.
Shields and Smith also project as decent receivers.
TE- Brad Cottam (2008 Chiefs - 3rd round)
Big TE, teams will struggle to match up against him in the pass game and has the size to block just about anyone.
Will start his career under one of the vry best TEs in the game.
LT- Jake Long (2008 Dolphins - 1st round)
LG- Brandon Albert (2008 Chiefs - 1st round)
C- Mike Pollak (2008 Colts - 2nd round)
RG- Roy Scheuning (2008 Rams - 5th round)
RT- Gosder Cherilus (2008 Lions - 1st round)
The game is won and lost in the trenches, this probably explains the number of top picks I spent on both lines.
I went with my top rated player at LT, LG, C and RT.
Scheuning was not my #2 guard but when I could get him without using a 1st, 2nd or 3rd he was the obvious choice.
34 Defense
DE- Glenn Dorsey (2008 Chiefs - 1st round)
NT- Trevor Laws (2008 Eagles - 2nd round)
DE- Sedrick Ellis (2008 Saints - 1st round)
I would install a 34 defensive system but with no true dominant NT in this draft, it would be a variation on the 34.
Laws is possibly undersized for a NT but he has the strength to play the position and with Dorsey and Ellis demanding double team on every play the offensive line will face a difficult task.
These 3 can all play the run well which is essential to the 34 but they also have the ability to fight double teams and get into the backfield.
OLB- Quentin Groves (2008 Jaguars - 2nd round)
ILB- Jerod Mayo (2008 Patriots - 1st round)
ILB- Dan Connor (2008 Panthers - 3rd round)
OLB- Phillip Merling (2008 Dolphins - 2nd round)
A good combination of size and speed in the linebacking core, Connor and Mayo can both find the football, play the run and get into the backfield.
Merling may look like a homer pick and OLB may not be the position he plays in the NFL but he can be the big OLB playing opposite the speedy Groves.
CB- Antoine Cason (2008 Chargers - 1st Round)
CB- Justin King (2008 Rams - 4th round)
FS- Quintin Demps (2008 Eagles - 4th round)
SS- Josh Barrett (2008 Broncos - 7th round)
With the quality in the front 7 I couldn't fill the secondary with first round players but when you have a front 7 that plays the run and pass rushes so well there isn't a need for a great secondary.
That said Cason was my favourite corner in the draft and although not the best athlete of all the CBs he is the best football player, I think he projects to be very similar to his Chargers team mate Quentin Jammer.
Outside of Cason I went for the physically gifted;
Two sub 4.40 safeties with very good size and a very talented (though lazy) #2 corner.
Special Teams
K- Taylor Mehlhaff (2008 Saints - 6th round)
P- Durant Brooks (2008 Redskins - 6th round)
KR/PR- Quintin Demps (2008 Eagles - 4th round)
With the kicker and punter I just went with the first taken at each position in the draft
