NFL Forum :: - Denver's 08 Draft Class

I have been thinking about it, and our draft class from this year has the potential to be the best in team history and one of the best of all time: 1.

Clady: Can be our franchise LT for 10-13 years. 2.

Royal: Can be a great punt returner, and, from what I heard, has the potential to be another Steve Smith(Panthers WR, not Giants) 3.

Kory L: Could be our next center. 4.

Jack Williams: Small CB has lots of speed and potential. 5.

Ryan Torain: From all the talk that I hear, this guy is a diamond in the rough.

Can't wait to see him this year. 6.

Carlton Powell: Can be a solid contributor to the DT rotation. 7.

Spencer Larsen: If there is one guy that is gone from this class in a few years, it might be him. 8.

Josh Barrett: Potentially a big steal and future SS, maybe next year. 9.

Peyton Hillis: Should be our starting FB and a good contributor to the offense. Only time will tell, but I am excited about this draft class more than any other Denver class in history.

The 06 class and this class might be looked back on as the foundation of an NFL power.

Clady, Royal, Hillis, and Torain could or should be immediate contributors, and we have some other potential starters down the road in Barrett and Kory L.

Clady, Royal, Hillis, and Torain could or should be immediate contributors, and we have some other potential starters down the road in Barrett and Kory L. So your expecting about everyone to make a big contribution to the team in some way down the line?

No busts whatsoever? Something like this is MUCH more likely. Clady- Average NFL LT.

Nothing amazing, but would rank in the 13-17 range among NFL LTs. Royal- Similar career to Roscoe Parrish, never a great receiver, but an ok punt returner though nothing special. Kory L: Backup Center. Jack Williams: Nickel at best because too small to match up with the NFLs new trend of bigger WRs. Torain- Another servicable back for a year or 2, then will probably be replaced. Powell- Career backup at DT. Larsen- Starter at SLB in a few years. Barrett- Career STer. Hillis- Starting FB Something like is SO much more likely.

But w/e, everyones usually happy about their draft class.

But w/e, everyones usually happy about their draft class. well based on thier skill sets and the schemes we run i think it will more likely be like this: Clady- best LT weve had since Z.

Will consistanly do what Lepsis did in 2005.

(that overtime run in dallas by Dayne where Matt blocked the DE ran 5 yards blocked the Will ran 10 yards and then blocked the Safety is still the best single effort i've ever seen by a OT) will be our best lineman but will never make it to a pro bowl as most fans will attribute it to the "system" Royal- above average return man and above average slot WR.

Nothing special, but the type of player every great team has. Lichtensteiger-back up interior lineman similar to Myers. Williams-nickle back who could start on a few teams.

Think foxworth. Torain- a faster version of Mike Anderson will start for a couple of years and then probably traded (for much more than he is worth) and never heard about again. Powell- Backup who plays a big part in our rotation.

Great one gap run stopper (only draft eligible DT this year to have negitive net yardage when ran against for his entire career) think Ma'a Tanuvasaa.

Once again the type of player every great team needs. Larsen- ST ace and backup LB.

Think Keith Burns. Barrett- if he can stay healthy, lynch's replacement as the under saftey.

Very good in zone coverage and playing in the box.

Hard hitter. Hillis- starting FB.

Hopefully he can be similar to Howard Griffith if not he still has better hands and pass blocking ability than anything weve seen out of our FB position in a long time.

It seems like Patrick Hillis;

Our very last, pick is consistently being marked as a starting FB...that's kind of funny.

The reason why so many people are having Hillis appear as the starting FB is because Shanahan was willing to let Sapp go and Mike Bell has appeared to be lackluster at the position.

So he is probably in the competition for one of the more open positions. I think that Barrett is most likely to be the bust of the group.

He has had periods of questionable work ethic and injuries.

Yes the man is athletic, but work ethic is more important. Larsen will never be SLB, he can only play MLB.

Slowik is using SLB to cover TEs (Gates and Gonzalez) and Larsen lacks the speed.

While he can be a hard hitting MLB that can meet people at the line like Wilson did, he will likely end up like Keith Burns and playing his entire career as a Special Teams Tackler. As it looks right now Lichtensteiger will get his chance to play in a few years.

This is likely Nalen's year and especially if he pulls a Lepsis and has declined in ability.

Wiegmann is merely a stop gap for this year in case Lichtensteiger has not recovered from his surgery or needs extra time to pickup the rigors of the position.

The only other possibility is that Hamilton slides over to replace Nalen, but that depends on if Kuper gets the RT spot (which I don't think he will) and what the depth looks like at that point in time.

For the moment it looks like Lichtensteiger could be the starter in 2009.

For the moment it looks like Lichtensteiger could be the starter in 2009. Willing to let Sapp go I think Shanahan was begging for him to come back.

I heard that he was getting a lot of interest from a lot of other teams.

He signed with Denver for the minimum salary.

I could understand if he wanted to stay in Colorado, but I just don't think he would make the cut on any other team.

There is a reason why Kyle Johnson is out of football.

Denver FBs are useless in the rest of the league due to their inexperience with run blocking.

Yes the man is athletic, but work ethic is more important. Kind of hard to call a 7th rounder a bust.

If he makes the squad for more than two years, we're getting more than is expected of him, and if he eventually gets in the running for playing time at safety, that is fantastic for us.

I think Hillis is more of a Tom Rathman type but a better receiver.

I was surprised to learn that he led Arkansas in receptions last year. Also, I think out of this rookie crop we'll have 11 make the final roster. I think all of our draft choices and two CFA's, Aldridge and either Kern or Hartley.

Looking at our roster, I think 33 of the final 53 will be in there 5th year or less, with 27 of those going into there 3rd year or less.

Of those 27 I think 19 will play a significant part and 17 will start. I absolutely love the way they've rebuilt this franchise, and can't wait to see them play.

Sorry about the over-sized avatar. MileHighSalute, you are right that a 7th rounder player can't really be a bust.

I just think that he is the most likely to live up to the expectations that people keep claiming he is capable of.

He has the potential to be a quality safety, but also has the potential to be selling insurance or professionally walking dogs in a year or two.

Geez we just a terrible draft lol.

97Den98 might be a little on the optimistic side but id say he's pretty dead on with his evaluations.

Larsen is probably the least promising player we drafted....no way he'll ever be a starter....

At least i really doubt it.

Funny you gave him the best evaluation....even over guys like torain and clady.

Funny you gave him the best evaluation....even over guys like torain and clady. For Clady, heres my case: Every year theres someone like Clady.

Someone with all the tools to be a franchise LT and has shown that potential. 2008 Jake Long Chris Williams Ryan Clady Brandon Albert-(Hes at LT right now) Sam Baker Duane Brown 2007 Joe Thomas Joe Staley Tony Ugoh 2006 Fergueson McNeil 2005 Jamaal Brown Michael Roos 13 currently starting LTs in the last 4 years drafted.

You essentially have to see how Clady stacks up to them.

Brown, Ugoh, Thomas, Roos, and McNeil are already top LTs in the league playing at a Pro Bowl level and it would be hard to expect Clady to play up to that level though it is possible.

Then factor in veterans who are top LTs like Clifton, Jones, Light, Peters, etc.

Who are likely to remain top LTs, then you have to expect Clady to beat them out.

Clady could very well be the best LT in the league one day.

But everyone else has similar potential coming out and I think when Clady stacks up to them, he will be rated as an average LT.

Idk i think just being in the zbs will make him flourish( same with cory l).

Imo he'll be considered good to great.
