NFL Forum :: - QB Battles...
We know that there is going to be some interesting battles in training camp this off-season, do you think that Minnesota has an eye on some of the QBs fighting for a starting spot?
Especially since Frerotte isn't really in their future plans, Booty has struggled and Bollinger isn't exactly great.
Here are a few that pop up in my mind:
Trent Edwards vs JP Losman - Losman has struggled and I know this one has come up before.
Do you think the Bills will keep Losman as backup if Edwards wins?
Matt Cassel vs Matt Gutierrez vs Kevin O'Connell - There are rumors that Cassel could be the next Schaub, though with even less playing time.
He has worked with Brady, so who knows.
The Patriots did grab O'Connell early, so they expect him to compete for a backup spot.
I don't know about Gutierrez, though.
I do expect though for one of them to be traded...
Kellen Clemens vs Chad Pennington - This might be interesting.
I don't think Clemens will be traded or Ainge to be on the practice squad.
Ratliff, I guess would be the odd player out but could the Jets be thinking about trading Pennington if he loses his spot to Clemens?
Troy Smith vs Joe Flacco vs Kyle Boller - Boller is out, but will he get another shot?
And who will start if Boller is traded?
Boller might be kept on and rotated with Smith so Flacco can learn but if the Ravens decide to go with Troy Smith as their starter and let Flacco learn, Boller could end up on the trading block.
Aaron Rodgers vs Brian Brohm vs Matt Flynn - With the reinstatement of Brett Favre, that gives the Packers four QBs.
Flynn looks to be the odd man out but McCarthy did choose Alex Smith over Rodgers in 2005, and Rodgers has had a small injury bug.
Who knows but could Flynn be an upgrade to Booty if he is released?
Jeff Garcia vs Brian Griese vs Josh Johnson vs Luke McCown vs Chris Simms - Simms is finally healthy and looks to be the odd man out.
Hell two of them could leave and they still have an odd assortment of QBs.
But Simms has been rumored to be on the trading block and released lately since his recovery.
Problem is, he's a lefty and the right side isn't exactly great for Minnesota.
Alex Smith vs JT O'Sullivan vs Shaun Hill - It's strange to think that Smith might not be the front runner for this poor group of QBs but he isn't.
The 49ers might want to trade him before he gets worse.
We already had O'Sullivan and I think Hill as well.
Could he get better or worse with the Vikings?
Who knows.
I personally would like to see what the Packers and the 49ers do with their QB situation along with the Bucs.

Jackson is the starter, plain and simple.
Even if the job was open though, Booty has looked terrible so far in TC.

That's my point as well.
We'll need a capable backup in the future, even a starter.

What is the point of this?
Our QB position is set for this season.
The FO, the team, and many fans have the back of T-Jack and believe he can get it done.
If he doesnt thats what Ferrote is for.
Booty is nothing on our team except a backup project in case T-Jack doesnt pan out.

Our QB behind Jackson isn't set.
You can't tell me the organization still isn't looking outside the organization to see what else we can grab.
Remember when Jackson went down last season we split time with Bollinger and...Holcomb, neither of whom really impressed.
If Booty is still doing bad and Bollinger is our best answer, you don't think a trade to grab Losman wouldn't help this team?

Im really hoping Troy Smith can start.
He looked very good last year.

Ohio State returns four starters to the number one pass D in the country

The quarterback position is pretty much set, in my opinion.
Jackson is the starter, and unless someone like McNabb gets cut, I doubt it's going to change.
Frerotte is a great backup and he is a great mentor, which is what a young QB like Jackson needs.
Frerotte may not be the young guy waiting in the wings, but he offers a lot with his experience.
Then there's Booty who is the developmental third string quarterback, he hasn't shown much so far, but it's early in training camp and grasping an NFL playbook is a challenge for new quarterbacks.

That's true but on the other hand, there might be a few good QBs up for a trade.
