NFL Forum :: - Round 2, Pick 18 (49) - DeSean Jackson (WR) Califorinia
DeSean Jackson, WR California
5'10" 169 lbs
Football's Future Player Profile
Quote: : Jackson is electric with the ball in his hands.
Any time he touches it, he is a threat to put six on the board.
He has fantastic quickness, and the ability to start and stop on a dime.
He can make people miss, and quickly regain his speed to run away from defenders.
Jackson is also a standout as a punt returner, and brings big time playmaking ability in that area as well.
Size is the major issue with Jackson.
He does not appear to be as big as his listed size.
He lacks the bulk to go over the middle and take a hit, and can be taken out of a play by physical corners.
His height is also only average, and he may have trouble going up and getting the ball against corners because of his overall lack of size.
Jackson may have some size limitations but his playmaking ability is rare.
He is a player you have to account for, and may be the most explosive player in the draft.
He could go anywhere in the first round, although he brings more value in the second half of the round.

2006 -- 13 -- 59 -- 1,060 -- 18.0 -- 9
2007 -- 12 -- 65 -- 762 ---- 11.7 -- 6
Total - 36 - 162 - 2,423 - 15.0 - 22
Quote: : For his career, he [Jackson] recorded 52 plays of 20 yards or more (23.0% of his 226 touches).
NFL.com Player Comparison
Quote: : Compares To: STEVE SMITH-Carolina...Some experts compare him to Santana Moss, but he is much more explosive in his drive off the ball to the break point and brings much more value on special teams.
Others liken him to Devin Hester, but he is not in that class yet as a returner and, because of size issues, he has never really taken to the kickoff-return role.
Jackson is a better deep threat with better hands as a receiver than Hester.
He is a few inches bigger than Smith, but both have a combination of explosive burst, quick change-of-direction agility and cutting ability to threaten the deep secondary consistently.

Post away guys, we finally got our next offensive weapon.

In a trade with the Carolina Panthers, with the 13th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft the Philadelphia Eagles select William Moore, Safety, Missouri.

I really wanted Sweed or Kelly there, but I like the pick.
He is a solid WR, and a great KR guy.
Hey at worst, he has the potentials to be what is Devin Hester for the Bears.

The pick is certainly offensive BatCountry!, but not a weapon by any means.
Andy's gotta go as GM.
Guy cannot draft.
The best thing to come out of today was a 1st rounder next year, cause they certainly didn't get anyone who will make an impact.
Maybe they'll get an OL with that #1 next year to protect Kolb.
The only reason McNabb isn't choking Reid right now is because his hands can't fit around Reid's throat.

You dont have to be an eagles fan.
But I am, which is why I am so upset by these picks.
They do nothing to help this team.
The first player they take is a rotational DT?!
And then they take another midget WR who tops out as a slot receiver?!
What bad choices, especially when they have huge holes at safety and wide receiver.
I may be an Eagles fan, but I am definitely no Andy Reid fan.
Can't wait to see him leave town.

A receiver that could be an X in our scheme aka a starter.
Not to mention the best return man in the draft.
Also we need a 3rd DT we didn;t have one.
Laws was good value and fits what we needed perfectly.
It was a good pickup.
We now actually have a DT rotation.
