NFL Forum :: - Desean Jackson in the 2nd round
I just read Todd McShay's new Mockdraft (I would post it here, but it's an ESPN insider article...he has us taking Joe Flacco in the 2nd), but he had the Bengals taking Desean Jackson in the 2nd round.
I know, the Bengals pick at 46, but hypothetically, would you take him in the 2nd round if he were there?
I think considering our needs, unless there's a Brian Brohm/Joe Flacco/Antoine Cason type of talent, where we almost have to take it based on BPA, he'd be worth the pick based on the special teams aspect of his game.
Devin Hester was a 2nd rounder, and I feel that Desean Jackson is almost on that same level.
He can be groomed as a receiver, and he could eventually take over for someone if they're injured/cut/traded by the middle of year 2/start of year 3.
How 'bout you guys?
Let's assume that the top QBs are gone, Antoine Cason is gone, and Fred Davis is available.

I would consider Jordy Nelson and Andre Caldwell over Jackson at this point if they were to select a WR based on special teams along with the recieving aspect of the game.
They both can contribute in special teams like Jackson can and they are both built like actual NFL players, which Jackson is not.
I am not convinced Jackson is even close to what Hester is.
I believe even if he is soley used for special teams, his size will still not hold up to NFL level competition.
I do find it interesting McShay has Flacco falling to us, though.
I personally don't see it but it would surely lead to a controversial decision for our favorite team.

I would take Chris Johnson.
He would be a better slot, a better return man and a #3 RB.

I've considered it before, but its highly doutful he makes it to the second.

I prefer Dexter Jackson or Donnie Avery in Round 5.
I like DeSean, because I want a returner.
However, I think that Avery and Jackson are just as (or real close to being just as) good and will be available later.

Even if he does, he's basically a punt returner version of Berrian.

I'd be happy with D Jackson in the 2nd but would prefer to take Brohm or Flacco if they were there.
Or if a good O linemen slipped to us I would go that route.
I think we'll take the best player on the offensive side of the ball no matter the postion...
Other than RB that is

We'd have been lucky if Avery was there when we picked in the 3rd.
I too like Dexter and I'll replace Avery with Dorien Bryant.
Not much of a kick-off return guy but he's a good punt returner and that's what we need.

I don't understand any love for a 5'9-3/4" 170 lb WR to go this high
20lbs less than Steve Smith..
30lbs less than Lee Evans..
No thanks on the skinny smurf.
Donnie Avery has been looked at by the staff and personally, I'd rather see a larger framed reciever on the roster if our board has one there.
Remember...
We'll take BPA.. our war room has been solid and steady on this.

He will be a Cowboy at #28.
Tyrell Johnson, SS of the Minnesota Vikings

No thanks. I've always said the Jackson is a third-round talent.

I should work for the Panthers.
Then they would have a top 5 comedian.

Agreed.

I am realy hoping for Desean Jackson to fall to us in the 2nd.
Ive said it many of times, i dont care about his size.
He has achieved more in his career then any other of the WR's in the draft.
He is a smart player on the field with great speed, agility, and hands.
The only thing you can take away from his game is his size, but other then at the line, he will have 1-2 steps on the defender.
Desean Jackson will be a great player in the NFL and will surprise all of his doubters.
Jackson, Phillips, or Sweed.
I would love any of those in the 2nd.

....
What has he achieved?
Jordy Nelson has almost done as good in one year than Deshean his whole collegiate career.
Jackson was just super hyped.
Jackson will beat a defender...
IF THEY ARENT IN HIS FACE.
What kind of idiot team would play Jackson like they would Larry Fitzgerald?
He gets shut down if there is any sort of contact at the line.
And WOAH, look at our division.
Stacked with physical corners.
Again, I'll reiterate my statement that the RB Chris Johnson will be a better reciever than DeSean Jackson.

If Jackson were the best player availible at 47, then I would take him.
I think his special teams ability would be too tempting to pass up in the second.
However, if both he and Flacco were availible, then Flacco would be the best option.
