Good article and discussion on the GTR and its claims:

Basically they claim that Nissan is 'massaging' the numbers and its performance around the ring.

Ever since the 7:38 nurb time came out.
There are so many speculation how it start(flying etc), that nissan cheated with the tires blah blah blah...
Now there are saying that the one who did 7:29 is not a stock gtr but a v spec mule.
I even saw an article by an american journalist that this is a 690 hp gtr.
even the the top gear that did 1:19 there are questionning that why they need to send a car from japan and why not a car from any dealer from uk.
So there are thinking that this top gear gtr is not stock too.
No matter what still they cannot accept a 3800lbs car with only 480 hp beat those 500 plus and 400 lbs lighter.
Well it will never ends.
I think it's hard or scary to own gtr because there are so many haters.
Esp the fan boys.

Its not about hating.
It's about the speculative facts regarding the GTR.
People have sweat this thing so hard they ignore contrary opinions.
The only car with real proof of running hot times in production attire is the ZR1.
7:26.

vs.
The V-spec test mule which ran the 7:29.

Im really expecting the zr1 to be that @ times being 600plus hp and being light wt.
but the nissan press release is it is a base car gtr...
May 1, 2008 - GT-R among the fastest ever production road cars at the 'Ring -
Nissan today announced that its GT-R supercar achieved a lap time at the infamous Nürburgring in Germany of 7 minutes and 29 seconds.
Recorded on April 16 and 17, the GT-R used was a base specification car and fitted with the standard Japanese market tyres.
Driven by GT-R chief test driver Tochio Suzuki, this latest lap time beats the previous fastest time for the GT-R by nine seconds.
The previous best lap time for GT-R of 7:38, also driven by Suzuki, was one of the fastest laps achieved by a production car despite conditions being slightly damp on two corners.
"At last year's testing, we were frustrated by the conditions at the Nürburgring, always believing that the GT-R could go under seven minutes 30 seconds," said Kazutoshi Mizuno, Chief Vehicle Engineer for GT-R.
"Below seven minutes 30 seconds, the GT-R proves it is among the fastest mass-production cars in the world.
We set out to build a multi-performance supercar accessible to anyone, anytime and anywhere - I believe the GT-R has delivered that promise."

It's the V-spec test-mule, they've even said this.
Regardless of the rumors, they weren't running on street-tires either.
When they are released the realistic street GTR will probably clock in around 7:39.
Nissan can claim its base all they want but you don't gain 9 seconds on the ring in similar conditions with the same set-up.
