Driving is bad for your blood pressure
I took a short drive in my car today, but it was enough to raise my blood pressure!
Whatever happened to courteous drivers?
I know they exist, but sometimes I run into the bad ones.
For the record I live in SE NY, right on the NJ border.
I was making a left off a busy highway.
It's a straight green and you have to wait for clearance.
The car directly facing me is turning left (blinker's on).
As I turn, and the other driver starts to turn, she decides at the last minute that she is going straight instead!
So, I'm turning and she begins to come straight at me, not even pausing as she gets near me.
Yikes! I barely make it past her as she almost hits me.
What is the h*ll was she thinking?
Incident #2.
This is an exit ramp off a county highway.
There's a stop sign and you have to wait for traffic to clear before you turn right.
I'm stopped, waiting on a car to go by.
If I didn't wait, that car would have little space to stop.
It would be stupid to cut it off!
Well, Mr. Havetobethererightnow is behind me.
He tries to go around me to the left, inches from me (turning right also), is throwing up his hands in that irritated gesture (mind you, the wait has been, say, 5 seconds).
I turn as soon as I can and he ends up being 2 cars behind - he also had to wait for a car.
I really do find NY/NJ people polite, but I have noticed a trend: many of them (99% male) want you to turn in front of oncoming traffic, even when the road's crystal clear behind that car!
And I've seen more people use the shoulder as a lane.
I am not a slow or overly-cautious driver.
In fact, I have a bit of a lead foot.
I just won't cut dangerously in front of others.
Why is that such a bad thing?
Where I came from this is called aggressive driving and you can call the police about it.

I hear you. I'm from NJ, and i see that ALL the time.
Everyone is in such a darn hurry, and heaven forbid you don't turn and cut someone off, they will let you know!
I drive home on a busy county highway, with lots of stores, so there is always someone trying to turn out and onto the road.
I will let them, esp if traffic is crawling, but a lot of people won't....apparetnly it will delay them from the destination for anothre 10 seconds!
My mom lives in VA, and i laugh and say i have to lose my jersey driving attitude when i go down to visit her!

See, now there's your problem.
Courteous NJ drivers?
I think they hang out with the tooth fairy and Santa.

I plan on being here a long time.
Might as well get used to it, huh?

Meh heh heh ...
I have friends who just moved to Virginia from New Jersey and i am sure they would agree.
They've made several NASCAR comparisons.

Two popular bumper stickers hereabouts:
"i'm not speeding, i'm qualifying!" and "i'm not tailgating, i'm drafting!"
pretty accurate, too!
