Digg - Photo reportedly shows Big Browns shoe was loose!

A photo taken during the early stages of the Belmont Stakes has revealed Big Brown was running with a loose shoe as the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner attempted to become the first Triple Crown winner since 1979, Newsday reported Monday.

That's sad. It would have been nice to see a triple crown winner again although the Belmont is the toughest one to win.

Should have used velcro shoes...

They are easier

Who gives a

Absolutely no need for the exclamation point at the end of the title.

I love to watch the guy who shoes my horse do his work...it's a real art....and he does it so fast.

Just one more possible reason for his loss.

I doubt anything will be proven.

Big Brown will be retired to stud as a 3 year old, which makes sense given his quarter crack, except his retirement was announced beforehand.

When retiring a horse that hasn't reached its peak becomes a financially wise decision, something is out of balance. At my local venue, there's a trainer who wins almost 60% of the races his horses start in.

Aside from this guy, 30% is regarded as extremely good.

If drug legislation passes and we see proof of enforcement, we'll get to see how his standings hold up.

Dog-fighting for the rich.

$abotage.

You'd figure he would have thrown off the shoe shortly after that photo was taken.

I don't understand how they would put horse shoes on loose intentionally.

These are not reeboks or flip flops.

They nail them on with 1"+ nails.

I think someone needs to investigate where the owners of this horse placed their bets prior to this race.

Sounds like a fix IMO.
