TV Guide's Ausiello is reporting that Allison Mack will return as Chloe Sullivan for the eighth season of Smallville.

As I reported earlier this week, the actress' reps were (wisely) using the imminent departure of Smallville vet Michael Rosenbaum as leverage in the negotiations.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say the strategy paid off.

Love Chloe to death, but she can do so much more than that.

Well, I for one am very happy.
I think losing too many characters at one time not only looked terrible (and kind of embarassing), but it would have hurt the show if for no other reason than it alienates way too many fans.
SV needs all the fans it can get considering how bad the ratings already are.

So many negtive comments in this thread about this latest news...
Here are my thoughts from a non-shipper, Clark fan perspective.

I agree that the writers need to shift the focus on the Clark and Chloe friendship.
Their friendship needs to be portrayed as more of a partnership, as it was in earlier seasons.
Obviously, as with any relationship on this show, it will all depend upon how it's written.
As I've said before, Clark needs to be more proactive.
And, I really dislike any type of scene with Clark and anyone (including Chloe) where someone tries to "push" Clark or tries to make Clark's decisions for him.
Let Clark be proactive and make his own decisions about his life and his destiny!
Since he's the hero in this story and the lead character, is that really too much to ask?
However, Clark needs a confidant and best friend who knows his secret.
And, on SV, that person is Chloe!
On SV, Chloe Sullivan has really taken the Comics!Lana role.
And, it's too late for this show to try to put someone else in that role now.
Season eight should be the last season of this show, and Clark/Chloe's close friendship has been developed from the beginning.
Plus, I don't want to see Clark endure yet another loss at this point either.
There is already too much teen soap opera angst on this show already!
And, also IMO, the writers need decide on Chloe's destiny.
Since she is Clark's best friend, protector of his secret, and a future member of his family (when Clark marries Lois), I would like to see some type of closure for Chloe too.

I know some doesn't care for Chloe, but I totally love her :D and I hope that having to fight for Allison Mack is going to mean they are going to write her even better, like past seasons!!!

I'm thrilled to see she isn't going.
I will definately be looking forward to watching her and it might help to dull the pain of Lex's untimely departure.

If they are gonna write him as dependent on everyone else, who better than Chloe?

Ah well, she's still got her fans to support her.
I know she'll be great.
And I totally agree Scarlett, Chloe has been a huge part of Clark's life since season one and I think she (and we) deserve some closure on her character.
