Cobalt SS\SC to Cobalt SS\TC - Cobalt SS Network

Hello Forum I now have a Cobalt SS\SC and have the opertunity to maybe get a 09 SS\TC. I still have a few questions about the SS\TC owning my SS\SC now for 2 years and had quite a few problems in the past with it. 1) how many have switched over from the ss\sc to the ss\tc ,how much better do you like it? 2) the dreaded axle problem,Does the SS\TC suffer the same problem as the ss\sc with the axle problems or have they been improved or upgraded?(My 06 has been through 2 set of axles and 1 set of lower control arms. 3) Is there a big notice of power differents between the ss\sc and the ss\tc (stock for stock) does it have the pick up off the line like the ss\sc? 4) Really how much more improve is the ss\tc over the ss\sc from previous owners of both cars(ss\sc and ss\tc) 5) anything else I should know between the ss\sc and ss\tc i may have left out for questions you can fill in,Like to make the change but wanted to get some info from people who made the switch. Thank You Forum

1.) Some have switched from the SS/SC to the SS/TC, but many are sticking with their LSJ's.

The people that have switched over, really like their new SS/TC. 2.) It does NOT suffer the same axle problems.

Chevy re-engineered the way the harmonics are vibrated, and it has improved that axle problem. 3.) There is not really a big power difference.

It does not pick up off the like the SS/SC does, because the turbo has to "build" up power.

They have different power spots. 4.) The SS/TC does have some improvements over the SS/SC.

The Brembos, RPD, axles, suspension... All in all, the SS/SC is a great car, but the SS/TC just built upon that platform, and made it phenominal!

I am sticking with my LSJ.

Dunno about them turbo ones, i have two friends that have them and i just dont like them....

I know they can go in a straight line better than us LSJ's.

With the money you are going to be spending on a new tc and depending on how much you lose on your car...

May just be better to turbo your car

^sounds more reasonable (twin-charge sounds a little better)

To add to #2 , the axles are also slightly beefier .

Motor and both trans mounts have a different durometer rubber .

And the clutch have been enlarged over the SS/SC version . Basically the entire suspension is revised .

Spring rates , shock valving , the way the steering rack mounts to knuckles , the entire steering rack itself including recalibration of the steering rack module which now a variable rate .

Front lower control arms are revised . Do yourself a favor a drive one for yourself and base your own decision , as its pretty different car as a whole to the SS/SC , and alot the LSJ diehards have a bit of problem admitting the new car is better overall ....no , Im not reffering to anyone who posted in this thread as of yet .

Not mention the fluff stuff , like new ( better imo over the Recaros that I had ) seats , the quite useable performance display , bluetooth , more brake than youll ever need , 2 minute front pad changes on the brembos IMO , the new one is basically everything I wished my SC car was when I bought it new back in 05 .

And sure , the LSJ is quite capable of being built to smack the shit out of the new car but at a higher cost .

When modding comes up , I cant help but make a comparison back to when GM put the LS1 in the Camaro's .

Like the LS1 camaro's when compared to a LT1 , the LNF cobalts are gonna be way cheaper to make stupid fast over a LSJ .

With LNF cars pushing damn near 12's with a tune limited by access to all aspects of the PCM , modest traction and couple exhaust mods . JMO , Im sure boatloads will disagree

Well for all you members that where following this thread and gave input. I took the cobalt ss\tc out for a ride today. I must say WOW!!!

What a differant car with in 3 years. I noticed the upgraded things from the ss\sc to the ss\tc right away. power is extremely noticable(nice pants in seat) over ss\sc,handling is day and knight(wider tire I believe 225 40 18) I must admit ...

Wont miss my silver 06 ss\sc if I do make that switch and its a really good shot I will. Well the SS\TC I plan on getting is loaded to the gill (yes has the big wing) But the color just blow me away!!!

Im getting it in Tint Red So just wanted to give a update and say it maybe Bye Bye SS\SC And..PS may have to change name now Thanks for info all

Did you have stage 2 in your SS/SC

I'm not impressed with the SS/TC, but that's prob because I'm comparing an SS/TC to my TVS build

Well, if you get the SS/T I'm sure you're gonna love it. Seeing how you were WOW'd by the power though, I'm guessing your SC doesn't have Stage 2 like my car does. Personally, I don't care about the Brembos, adjustable suspension control, seats, etc. Just gimme the bigger clutch and them stronger axles, Chevy can keep the rest ...

About the axles - here are some pictures I snapped of the driver and passenger axles.

The socket extension is for size comparison - it is a standard craftsman extension. For handling - I dont know if they stiffened the actual chassis at all over the S/C, but this really surprised me when I went to install the hahn 3" exahust.

This pic does NOT have a jack stand under the rear wheel, and I was able to open and close the passenger door normally - Oh, and for grins - here is the stock intercooler on my table (this is the one I cracked - anyone interested in it with a crack in the plastic end tank?

PM me)

I also to the 09 ss/tc for a test drive...

The power difference is there but it's not a big jump in power by all means.

It is smooth, sounds nice when the turbo kicks in, and handles great, but i didn't find the brakes to be very good, my ss/sc brakes are better and there stock (might have nbeen becuase they were too new)...

Noetheless it's a great car but i like my ss/sc better becuase i find these cars are much more responsive....

Turbos have to biuld power=lag, superchargers have power on demand..

And i love the sound of the supercharger...

But i gotta say the seats are a very big jump from the ss/sc..

Unless you got some secret special brakes from GM im pretty sure those Brembos would beat the piss out of your stockies.

And a lot of people find the turbo to be slow due to they dont know how to drive it and the dealerships only put 87 in the tank for savings so they are slower.

Now i still dont see how a stage 2 is pretty close to equal to the turbo.

Not trying to hate, just want to see a race against two GOOD drivers.

Ive seen the youtube videos.

They all have things done to them.

Still, the turbo will make more power for the buck vs the sc.

Whoah whoah nelly haha...the ss/sc is a great car I owned one before I picked up my ss/tc.

Loved it really, just wanted to upgrade to something that was a bit more refined and had more potential.

The brakes on the ss/sc arn't that bad they actually are very good for being OEM brakes up front.

Stage 2 does make a whole lot of difference in the ss/sc.

Honestly stock for stock the ss/tc would tear the ss/sc a new hole both in the straights and twisties but with stage 2 on the ss/sc the ss/tc would have a run for its money for sure.

In a braking comparison the brembo equipped SS/TC stopped from 0-60 6 feet faster than a SS/SC .

IIRC it was 121ft to 127ft.

Better yes , beaten the piss out of ....

Well that depends which car you own.

I owned both and the t/c is better anyway you put it straight line, around the track, seats, braking, and the potential for more power

I've raced one from a 40 roll and to my surprise beat it by half a car maybe more went all the way to about a 100.

Super Ed was with me cause we all raced from the same roll.

It was pretty cool actually . I meant super ss damn I phone lol
