The rationalization measure included statements such as: "It is not really that big a problem if some people have more of a chance in life than others," and "This country would be better off if we worried less about how equal people are."

Although it might not be obvious to the casual observer, there is a reason that some of us are conservatives and some of us are losers.
It comes down to hard work and not relying on the gummint to help us out.
And we also have better looking women.
That's another reason we're happier.

So here's the answer to your questions:

No, they wouldn't become rich.
The phonomena of poor people winning the lottery, becoming rich then a few years later are broke again is almost cliche.
The problem is that these people do not know how to handle money which is often one of the reasons that they are poor in the first place.
Give money to them and it will largely (with some exceptions of course) be squandered.

I've personally never known a happy liberal.
They've always been outraged over this or that injustice.

It depends on your definition of conservative.
If you count the present day doofuses that are the president and vice president as conservative...you are not conservative.
You are actually more liberal than conservative.
George and his Dick are embarassments to the word conservative.
As are Rush, Hannity, and a host of other corporate apologists that masquerade as conservatives.
As has been illustrated too many times with today's republicans, they wouldn't know conservative if it bit them on the hiney.
They've twisted, raped, dogpiled, and molested the word because they use it as a shield to hide behind.
