Interior Ambient Lighting - Camaro Forum - 2009 Camaro / 2010 Camaro / New Camaro SS Z28 Forums - Camaro5.com
Sorry if this has been posted before, I did a search but came up with nothing.
I keep going back and forth on this feature.
I am worried about how it will stand up log term use.
Will the plastic scratch easy will it discolor because of sun etc, will debris be able to fall behind the plastic and be visible?
I know this is new for a car but do any of the disciples or anyone that has seen it have any ideas on the long term durability of the ambient lighting system?
|
 |
Well no one really will have any awnser to those questions because the car hasnt been released yet hence no long term testing was able to be performed.
But I can tell you a few things that may help.
1.
The plastic should be easy if not very easy to remove (If replacing and cleaning under it should be nessesary.
It might take a mechanic or a dealer to show you how but it definatly wont be hard.
And I can't imagine the plastic being over $150 - $200 to tottally replace.
It's just plastic haha.
2.
The lights will be LED which are very inexpesive but are known to last a very long time.
(That light on the end of your TV remote is a LED.
How long has that thing been running lol.)
I definatly think this feature will be worth having personally.

Yeah im not sure but has it been confirmed only to come with the leather seating?
Or can we get it without
|
 |
From what i've read in the guide you won't need to get leather with it.
What i wanna know is will there be more colors available later or would we have to change that out ourselves?

Nothing has been said about colors except the blue or orange, it is unknown if they will offer more colors
This is about as close to confirmed as one can get.

Quote: : The lighting is dimable it comes with the leather interior upgrade, as I recall.
It is ice blue unless you order an Orange Accent interior -- then it is orange in color.
Gimmick -- perhaps -- but as someone pointed out, it's a COOL gimmick.
Further, it allows you to see the door handle and window buttons at night -- so it has a purpose as well.

My question is, you won't need the RS package to get the lighting correct?
So I could get an LT, ask for leather seating, and that comes with the ambient light I guess...
|
 |
Correct, that is the way it looks.
No matter which trim you get, if you order leather you get Ambient Lighting
|

No matter which trim you get, if you order leather you get Ambient Lighting Actually, it may not come with the LS.
That is intended to be the base Camaro, so I'm guessing it only comes as an option with the LT and SS.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
As stated previously, LEDs last for a long time.
Durability shouldn't be a concern.

Most unlikely as none of the LS vehicles in chevy lineup have leather as an option.
Most likely it will look like this
LS N/A LT1- Optional LT2 -Standard SS1- Optional SS2-Standard

LS N/A LT1- Optional LT2 -Stabdard SS1- Optional SS2-Standard Ambient lighting is standard on the LT.
ON the LS it comes with the leather seating.
ON th LT leather isnt required as it is optional, and im Positive that a cloth seat option will be available.

Then that would make the Camaro the only Chevy that would have leather seating as an option for an LS.
Yes the Ambient lighting is listed as included with the LT and I for one wont want the leather but will want the LT.
That usually means mutiple LT options.
And since the RS package will not be available on the LS, I am willing to believe that most of the "goodies" wont be an option for the LS.
|
 |
I agree, i dont think ambient lighting will be an option for LS, they want people to spend more money and buy the LT.
Therefore they add more bells and whistles.

You can just buy the interior LED kits off Ebay.
They are just as good if not better.

I'd worry about the quality of any wiring unless you just buy components and build the kit yourself.
Everyone knows that eBay has its share of questionable merchandise.
|
 |
Aye but there are reputable kits.
Most of the kits come with an inline fuse.
It's not for everyone of course but you can always just pay an installer.

Plus those are no where close to what is offered in the Camaro.
I'll stick to the factory option however I need to get it.
|
 |
Aye that's for us poor folk.
I try to avoid paying interest on anything that I can add in myself later.
I do like the option just saying if you don't get it adding 3rd party is an optional thing you can do.

 |
Everytime I see that image I get chills.
Grr.

Quote: : Mag CP: "One of the really cool things on the interior is, when you start the car, the sequence of lighting and the instrument cluster gauges are all illuminated in a cool kind of a way.
There is a light ring that goes around the actual tachometer and speedometer.
Additionally, on cars with a leather interior, there is what we call a two-inch ambient lighting LED pipe that goes across the instrument panel and then also goes into the door trim on each side.
It's very similar to what was in the concept car.
It will have ice blue lighting, and we have a special inferno orange accent package with orange seat inserts and orange-red ambient light.
Through GM accessories dealers, you will also be able to get different colored accessory pieces.
Also, GM accessories will offer 21-inch wheels in two different looks.
They should fit both the V-6 and the V-8 car.
More Camaro accessories will be announced during the 2008 SEMA show." :-)

 |
|
So the ice blue is gonna be on stock LS without having to buy an option package?
|
 |
Yes. But only on the gauges.
The rest of the dash and door lighting won't be available on the LS.
|
 |
I think you have to step into an LT package, and if you add the RS you can get it in orange.
I wonder what it is that makes the color;
The panels or the LEDs.
Hmm. I'd like a little darker blue myself, however, I don't think it would stand out as much, so Ice is great.
|
 |
It's nice. Any other media of the panels.
If it's like a clear acrylic then might be able to put the multi color LED's and controller in there.
Even putting multcolor led's into a colored panel might be an interesting mod.

Its Only orange with the inferno orange accent package.
Whick requires an orange exterior color.
If Im not mistaken.

I do know that in the stang you can change the color of the lights around the guages be cool if you could in the cammy for the interior lighting as well.
i think blue would like the best (that icy color) however it wont match mine car as the exterior will be red or black
