first time at the drag strip 1st gen - AcuraZine Community

Had an awesome times last night at the the drag strip.

I wouldn't say I ran fast, but even I could tell I could drive a hell of a lot better than a lot of people. Did four runs (rt=reaction time) 1st rt 1.049 et 16.391 vs.

Early 90's Firebird 2nd rt 0.106 et 16.241 vs.

Blown 80's mustang 3rd rt 0.256 et 15.935 vs.

76' vette almost won this one, he ran a 15.541 4th rt 0.258 et 16.241 (yes, exact same as 2nd run...weird) vs.

Another blown 80's mustang So yeah, not too great, but all I've got is an SRI and this is the 3.0L.

I was the ONLY true Acura there...not counting tegs.

I've got the addiction now, it's only a matter of time before I do something drastic.

Again, it was a lot of fun and my wife even is addicted now, that's always good.

I been trying to decide, is the lack of responses due to A)now everyone knows how slow their own car is and doesn't want to talk about it B)I was slow as shit and you're surprised I even posted C)you're wondering why I would do this to my car D)your mad now every idiot with a teg knows there's is faster now. E)all of the above F)A,B and E, excluding C G) you're wondering why I raced those cars well then you dont know how these things work.

Mostly because this part of theforum gets about 3 visitors a month.

Personally, I know nothing about what is a good time or bad time in a first gen.

If you were faster than I was in my 03 6MT, I would have been fully impressed.

Looks pretty good to me, but it doesn't get exciting until you are in the 14's or faster these days.

Also note that R/T is NOT measured in you final elapsed time.

You can sit there on green for two minutes and still do a 16.23 or whatever.

If you are racing a friend who has an equally fast car R/T matters as the first to the other end wins;

Both cars could do a 16.23 but the first to leave the "hole" will win.

Therefore, leave on the last yellow and don't redlight, mostly concentrate on making your car faster to lower that E/T.

Headers, intake, pulleys, lighten up the car etc.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I didnt post this thinking anyone would be impressed.

I went there purely for fun and thought it would be nice to get a base line performance test before doing any real mods. I should have been running a 15.9-16.2(from what I can find), so oddly enough I guess I did good for what I have. Time for exhaust work, I guess and maybe some pulleys. can a street car use a bypass valve for the exhaust for race purposes only?

As in you turn a valve and have say straight pipes.

Not to say I wanted to do it, but just asking. It's so tough since I love the car for it's luxury and all, but then really want to go fast....

Nice runs at the track.

Glad you had some fun doing it.

I know I have fallen in love with racing my honda at the track.

You should feel pretty good running those times with just SRI.

15.9-16.3 is the average time for a stock 98-02 Accord V6 or a 97+ CL 3.0.

With Headers and Exhaust you might drop your 1/4 mile time by a few tenths at most.

I've been told by someone close that I've ruined my car by running the track and that I've at least taken a year off my cars life..

The car is fine btw...this observation is based on the mere fact that i went. apparently monitoring me on the forums isnt an invasion of privacy.

So farewell AZ, really a shame, perhaps I'll reappear but you unfortunately wont know it's me. and if a moderator could delete my account that would be great.

I cant figure out how to.

Nah, you know what, never mind I'm staying simply because I shouldnt let this stop me from getting to talk about the nicest car I've ever had.

Just guess I'll let this thread die, since I'm dead to someone else, due to my actions

Don't believe everything you hear.

You definantly did NOT ruin your car by taking it to the track.

In fact its good to get rid of the carbon build-up and by flooring your car from 0-90MPH it will really help clear things out.

You are not the only person taking your honda/acura to the track.

I have been to the track over 10 times in my accord and with 52,000 miles on it she still runs like she did the day I bought her with 7 miles.

My dad with his 98 Accord V6 runs at the track with me and he has 129,000 miles on his car.

Still runs like new!

Go HONDA!

Who's playing big brother with you Is it the bosses at work?

It was the first time for me in 2006 when i had been to a similar place.

Before that i never thot of something like this and started participation from last year and ever since that happened, its a craze for me.

The frenzy and the madness seen over there is a turn on for all race freaks.

Sounds like you've had a similar experience and i would commend you for driving the way u did... Way to go dude...

Racing at the track is awesome, I've taken my CL-S out there probly 40 times, she still runs good with 115k on her.

I'd rather do it there legally, then on the street.

Something about the 3.0 cl times on the internet is off , i have hit 7.3 0-60 stock and have raced 14 second cars and won.

They probobly were not racing you.

A 3.0CL is a low 16's car.

It's the same engine and drivetrain as a 98-02 accord V6.

You might be able to bust out a 15.9 but thats rare for these cars in stock mode.

Start saving for a new tranny.

A couple more runs and it will fall out on the way home.

Awesome man 15.9 on a stock cl that is really good

What did you car trap?

Hey man good numbers for a 3.0.

Try grabbing a bag of ice and ice your plenum between runs..it helps out a little

Englishtown NJ ?
