Interesting save for a dish | Taste.com.au
I made a recipe from a cookbook expecting it to be really good, and it was lacklustre.
From Healthy Indian Cooking it was called Cauliflower and Peppers (capsicum)...
It was simple, you sauteed some seasonings, onion, garlic and ginger.
Then you add the cauliflower, capsicum, sliced baby potatoes, peas and they are meant to steam for 5 - 7 minutes.
Then you add some chilli powder and salt and stir again.
Serve. Really blah in my opinion.
DH liked it.
Trouble was I'd made the full size of the recipe...
So convinced it was going to be awesome.
So tonight I combined the vegetables with chicken stock, a handful of lentils and simmered until done.
Then pureed and we had delicious soup.
Pretty much the same ingredients, but such a different result.
I was really amazed.
I'm planning to add it to my database in the soup format.
Delicious.

I wouldn't have thought of doing that...probably would have chucked it

I would have too.
It was only because DH said he liked it and would eat it again that I kept it.
I figured I could nuke it if necessary.
Tonight was pure laziness.
I managed to buy a nice loaf of bread that I wanted to use today which helped.
It was something to chuck on while I did other things.

That's is a great way to change a recipe.
Isn't it disappointing when something youa re sure is going to be dleicious just doesn't live up to it?
It sounds like a lovely soup BTW.

Thats a great idea - I probably would have added curry paste and coconut cream to make it into a curry but by then the vegies may have been overcooked - your soup sounds great!
