GamesRadar Forums: 400 GB Blu-Ray Disc ...

Yep, it's real http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/07/pioneers-blu-ray-disc-hits-400gb/ It's freaking crazy, and the possibilities are huge

I just don't see a use for this yet, and I've been trying to figure one out.

At MOST a game is <50 gigs.

100gb BD is easily done and we don't even use that yet.

I'm sure this will be great for the PS4 and all, but right now it's ahead of its time. Also, how much do you think one will cost at commercial retail lol.

BD is already expensive enough in my opinion.

HOLY SH@# and happy 1000th post flare

Yes but you can store 400 000 song on one of them useful enough lol also 100 000 hrs of video 4g = 1000 song or 1 hour of video

I guess it'd be useful for music, but it wouldn't be too practical for retailers.

People would buy one and then they'd never need another, because I doubt very many people have 400 000 songs.

I also don't think people who have that many songs need a new way to store them either.

Same with video, except more people would be buying 2 or 3, and would probably use those.. I still think that we have to wait to see some actual potential from these.

Yea bit'd also be useful for devolopers that make multiple games e.g.

The orange box

Hey they could remake a lot of games for the PS3 like Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, or GOW series later on...just like Skippy said bout having more than one game on the disc.

Kojima San was very upset that he only had 50gigs of room for MGS4.

He said he had to cut stuff out of the game because it just wouldnt fit. This size discs are going to be mainly for companies and tech stuff.

Yeah I heard about that.

In fact where I found the link to that, someone had already said that a MGS5 should be made, or a directors cut of the fourth, so that we can see what it would have been like if he had had all of the space. Right now you're right, it's not really practical and would be expensive, that's why 25, 50, or 100 GB discs are way more popular and useful, cuz at least if you have some extra room leftover you don't have that much and it's not as expensive.

It would be really useful though to hold tons of data and the technology could possibly be used for HDD's or something.

It's got lots of potential. Thanks man

And tech stuff. Oh God, I don't think I could take anymore MGS cutscenes, they're so damn l ng

Actually it was stuff like destructible environments (which would have been amazing if they were in there)

I read this article yesterday, and the first thing that came to mind was "Sweet!", but the second thing that came to mind was "Oh hell, here come 40gb installations for PS3 games...".

While I seriously doubt it would happen anytime soon if at all, it's still possible.

Maybe for the PS4, if things are still disc-based by then.

:P

Well 400 gigs would be useful if Kojima had a directors cut of MGS4, and then remade all of the old ones for up to date graphix and gameplay.

Then they could all fit on one disc

I read it, and I don't think they ever said about the disk being able to play on a Blu-Ray player, or on a PS3...

I mean it probably would, but Jesus, 16 Layers?

I have a hard time imagining the actually working on a PS3. I guess it just blows my f*cking mind away.

Yeah apparently it will work on existing Blu-Ray players, but they just need a special component added or like a Blu-Ray 3.0 player, for example, that has that component in it already

Seems a bit much dont you think i mean you can use 100GB maybe even 120 GB but 400 thats just crazy if they invent something like a super game it might be use ful but other than that not that much use.
