Musiqtone AOTM page- gives wrong impression :: David Archuleta idolforums.com
Hello all-
They have a temporary page up for Archie as AOTM.
Alot still needs to be filled in.
However, the blurb they have is kinda lukewarm at best.
It refers to Cook's win of AI as a "landslide" without mention of Archie's landslide win of the AOTM title.
It also refers to his "TV Teen Looks" and "adoring female fans." My concern is that its making him sound like he appeals mainly to teen girls (I'm a 40 year old guy).
Part of the reason I was so concerned with him getting this title was to help with buzz.
We want the right type of buzz, and make it clear Archie has a wide fan base.
(Let me make it clear I am NOT dissing any young ladies on here.
I am sure Archie appreciates all his fans and I know you all played an important role in getting Archie where he is).
Over at the scary boards, people are writing to the guy who runs musiqtone to let him know about Archie's fanbase.
Obviously, we need to be respectful and note how we appreciate the oportunity AOTM gives David.
However, a few messages from guys and adult Archies can only help.
Here is the email I sent:
Alan-
First, let me thank you for nominating David as AOTM, allowing his fans to vote for him and give him this title.
In my case, part of the reason it was important to me that he win is this will help give him more "buzz" in the industry.
I understand that David's page is a work in progress.
However, I felt a need to comment on a few things.
First, the reference to "teen TV looks" suggests his appeal is limited to teens, This is not the case.
There are plenty of adults supporting him, which can be gleaned by review of postings on the "Idol Forums" site (www.idolforums.com) and the American Idol Boards.
Further, there are a number of male fans.
In fact, there is an entire thread at the AI board for the "Arch Army" as the male fans have called themselves (http://www.americanidol.com/myidol/forums/topic/?tid=1006767).
I myself am a proud, loyal 40 year old male fan.
Past seasons have shown, by the way, that conestants who appeal to the teen girl demographic do no make the finale.
I note that you refer to a "landslide" with respect to the finale results.
People may have a different definition of the term.
However, given you've mentioned this I'm sure your full page will mention the fact that he won the AOTM title by an even greater margin.
(Last I checked he was winning by 40% over his closest competitor)
Again, let me make thank you for creating this opportunity for David.
I just wanted to give you a better idea of his fanbase.

I actually don't think it was that bad.
It has a very positive tone.
And yeah his fanbase surely isn't just females (I'm a guy lol), but it is mostly and I do realize that.

This is just typical sterotyping.
And the landslide thing always bothers me.
A 12 million difference out of 97.5 million votes is not a landslide.
If the vote total was the usual 30 million they get other weeks then 12 would be a lot.

I don't think they expected Archie to win, lol.
Especially like that...
Anyway, 56 vs 44 is not a landslide.
Heads will roll if that comment is still there when the page is done

It looks like the edited it.
It no long makes makes reference to the landslide victory remark.
But you can tell it was there before with by the remark in the last sentence.

Given time and the endless potential this young man brings, David Archuleta may become the best runner-up American Idol has ever brought to the music world and some believe that he will eclipse past Idol winners Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood in album sales and perhaps have a better career than Idol winner David Cook.
But in the meantime, David Archuleta is OUR artist of the month as voted by the music fans in our recent voter-driven Artist of the Month poll by a landslide of his own!
