Who should be the Villain in the next Batman movie? - SpaceBattles.com
In various threads related to The Dark Knight around here, the same subject keeps coming up: who should be the bad guy in the next Batman film?
Since the previous two movies have been following a pattern of having two villains, I'm allowing multiple choices;
Try to only pick two.
Who do you think it should be?
|
 |
Either the Riddler or the Penguin and then some Muscle-Brick, like Bane or Croc.
The Riddler or the Penguin would be a new type of criminal...
Someone High Society, representing corruption and crime at that level.
They could strike not just at Batman, but at Wayne.
Bane or Croc would complement that, would be the High Society criminal's street face.
Honestly, though, given the last movie, I know that there is nothing that I or any other fanboy can think of that is better than what the current writers are capable of.

 |
|
IMO there needs to really be a science-fiction or "freak of nature" kind of villain in the next movie, and I think it should either be Croc or Manbat (or maybe that Werewolf he fought ) possibly poison ivy as well, but I'd prefer either Manbat or Croc.

I could see Croc, if they used the original "big guy with a funky skin condition and sharpened teeth" idea, but wouldn't Man-Bat go against the pseudo-realistic feel they've been using?
This, BTW, is why Mr.
Freeze and Clayface aren't on the poll.

I'd like them to continue with the theme of pseudo-realistic villains that depend on advanced intellect rather than supernatural powers or physical condition.
It would be nice to see Scarecrow return, and be given a more major roll.
He was extremely impressive in "Begins", and a return to that kind of calm, calculated sadism would make for a good movie.
Two Face is an interesting concept, but they can't really bring him back without undermining the tragedy of how The Dark Knight ended.
The Riddler is a bit too goofy for the tone of the universe to date.
Harley Quinn is kind of pointless without the Joker, and Leadger's unfortunate death means that we can't really see the Joker as he was in TDK.
Recasting and changing the conception would be all kinds of pointless.
Of the remaining options, I'd say the Penguin.
He seems like the smartest, the most calculating, and it fits with the whole class theme the last two movies played with.
The Penguin would be the sort of person who'd show up to a Bruce Wayne party as invited, and would shield himself from his crimes so there was no connection.
Rather than striking out because he's pscyhotic or has some grand nihilist vision (Ras al'Ghul) he'd calmly plot crime and the ruin of lives because he could squeeze more wealth, status and power from the city.
Edit: Oh, going by the Gotham Central version, teh Mad Hatter could also work.
Off-the-wall crazy, quite psychotic and malevolent, and his mind control would make for a new twist to the film.
As a malevolent power it's a bit obvious and gimicky in some ways, but that's not to say it couldn't work well.

Imagine him more of a completely psycho, Se7en sort of villain.
Imagine him as a "Beautiful Mind" John Nash gone wrong the sort of guy.
The type of guy evoked by this poster:

Teaming up Penguin and Bane would be interesting to say the least.

The Riddler, most definitely.
But The Riddler as seen in Batman: TAS (i.e.
- a cool, calm, collected individual who is obsessed with puzzles, riddles, and mysteries).
For that role, I present the following three suggestions...
1) Kevin Spacey - the man has that look, the one that's always trying to figure things out.
Too bad he's already Lex Luthor...
2) David Tennant - Good idea, but I fear he may bring too much of the Dr.
Who smartassery to the role, making the character seem more like the Frank Gorshin/Jim Carrey version (but not to that extreme).
3) Timothy Olyphant - He can bring an intellectual intensity to the role, but he might just be too young to play the Riddler.

I'd thrown in some of the traits displayed by the The Batman version (where he actually comes off as threatening): an amoral data pirate who uses riddles and puzzles as mind games;
Also, he ought to be able to effectively use his cane as weapon.
I also would like them to do Bane properly;
A brilliant criminal mastermind and expert hand-to-hand fighter who just happens to also be an overmuscled behemoth.

 |
I would have the Riddler be a young down-on-his-luck genius, who's a computer expert but works a shitty-7-to-5 day job with no future.
His battle with the Bat is done out of desperation, but also boredom.
And I would to introduce a change-of-heart in the last act of the movie, deciding he's not a killer like the rest and either fools his own plan or saves Batman.
Than at the ending he serves time on own, starts a job at Wayne Enterprises or begins for himself as an private eye detective.
A character that would be interesting is the first Clayface, Basil Karlo.
He was a B-horror movie actor who upon learning that there would be a remake of his most succesful movie, and him not asked to reprise the role, killed the main cast members before Bats stopped him.
A older actor also known for B horror movies, like Brad Dourif or Jeffrey Combs, would be great in the role.

Terminator.
|
 |
|
Mr. Freeze
|
 |
|
Bane (properly done) and/or the Riddler
|
 |
Deathstroke the Terminator.
Nuff said.
And hes relatively 'realistic'.
An assassin for hire.
|
 |
I think the darker aspects of The Riddler's personality fits very well with the running themes and general imagery of the "nolan-verse" batman.
This is someone who both Batman and Bruce Wayne can battle and will have to battle if the Riddler is out to find his true identity.
I have always thought The Riddler was one of the better Batman baddies anyway, so I'd love to see him done on the big screen in this better, darker version.

Actually, from the ending of Dark Knight, Deathstroke making an apperance would make sense.
A rouge/renegade cop hires him to take out Batman.

If you want to use an assassin, Deadshot would be more appropiate as he's a very old Batman foe, and Deathstroke being mainly the Titans arch-enemy.

Well, maybe you could have Deathstroke come to town with another assassin or past victim named 'Nightwing' after him?
Nightwing and bats could work together to find him, and afterwards, nightwing leaves to his own town.
Then you could have a semi robin in there, without fudging to story up.
Plus he will be available to make cameo apperances in later batman movies if the directors want him to come back.
|
 |
|
No Robin please it doesn't go well with the current vibe.
Properly done Bane, hell Talia would be interesting to see as well.
Though I would settle for a well done Catwoman or Well done Poison Ivy.
|
 |
Hmm... most people would immediately scream "ANGELINA JOLIE" when it comes to casting Catwoman.
I choose a different route.
Morena Baccarin.
She's got the grace, poise, and look to be a socialite (or attempt to do so, anyway, depending if they make her rich or poor).
Another option is Eliza Dushku.
|
 |
|
I meant a properly written catwoman not the shit the pulled with Hallie Berry.
|
 |
|
What I meant was that Catwoman's been portrayed in different ways...
1) She's a wealthy socialite, thanks to her thievery.
2) She's poor and PLAYING a wealthy socialite, thanks to her thievery.
3) She's poor and isn't playing a socialite.
That Halle Berry abortion doesn't even factor into the equation.

Catwoman, president of rival corporation '(insert name here)Corp.' It starts to move onto Wayne corp's turf and begins to outcompete it with increasingly advanced designs of various things, mostly espionage military hardware and such.
The funny thing is, that research and prototypes seem to be disappearing from the Wayne Corp.
Database and facilities.
All signs point to the thief's employer being the president of the rival corportation, Selina Kyle.
Batman, however, discovers that it is really Selina Kyle herself is behind the robberies.
Eventually Batman catches some Selina/Catwoman in the act of robbery, demasks her and her him, and eventually it is revealed that Catwoman is Selina Kyle, and she is placed under arrest.
She bribes her way out or some such and manages to escape the authorities, moving to some undisclosed location, meanwhile 'Selina' Corp is bought out by another corporation with whom a certain Victor Friese is their star researcher.
|
 |
I'd like Riddler too.
Although take it from the end of the movie...Batman is seen as a villain now, and the next movie would have to be about redemption.
And I think there needs to be a villain who draws Batman's situation.
So in some ways, maybe Penguin is better....in a weird mix of comic penguin and maybe the general situation from Burton's Penguin he's a social elite, white collar criminal running for..or in...a position of power and basically trying to be Gotham's new champion taking the torch from Dent (for his own goals, of course) and using the villainy of Batman as his issue a role reversal of sorts.
Of course Batman is redeemed once he exposes Penguin.
|
 |
|
Batman's portrayal of Dent could fail however, that could cause all kinds of riots, massive lack of faith in the police and legal system.
