The Picture Of The Hindu Idol Barack Obama Carries With Him
As bizarre as this sounds, presidential Barack Obama carries a small idol of the Hindu God "Hanuman" with him for good luck.
A picture of Obama displaying this idol and his other good luck charms has been found.

Wow, I remember once upon a time, in a magical land of freedom their was a magical thing called the separation of church and state and freedom of religion, and it made it so that it really doesn’t matter what religion your president was.

I remember when the first stirrings of the sense that there was 'something fishy' regarding John Kerry's service in Vietnam appeared innocuously in internet forums and 'forwarded' emails.
The seeds of the 'Swift Boat' campaign.

I like mythology.
If Obama is carrying a Hanuman token then he is carrying a token of a Monkey deity.
The very same Monkey that lead the Monkey Army against the demon Ravanna.
Funnily enough, this is almost the same myth as recounted by Wu Ch'en En in the "Journey to the West" (or Monkey is it is usually known) which is about the introduction of Buddhism to Japan.
Which is it to be: Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu?
Perhaps the comparison is nearer to crude racism?
No blossoming Turd would stoop that low, surely.
Perhaps it is a subconscious attempt to associate Obama with Monkeys.
Get the Fundamentalist Christian Raving Right all fired up about evolution and the need to teach Intelligent Design and, oh look at the damage done to George W.
Bush by being compared to a monkey.

One thing really makes me wonder: how can I make a link to an image work while the Original Post, which depends on the image being seen, can not click some icons in the forum to insert an image.
The whole point of mythopoesis is that it invites the use of imagination.
Greek Philosophers spent a good deal of effort examining myths to see if the gods exist.
In some respects that is a function of Myth: to ensure self examination.
After almost one decade of fascist thuggery by one monkey, self reflection while contemplating yet another monkeyman is not going to make people feel good.
I looked at google earlier today.
There were 3,000 images.
Now there are 6,800.
The growth in images has followed the amazing revelation.
This reveal a mechanism of mythopoeis in an image dominated society.
First pictures must be seen.
On seeing the pictures, then the narrative is built to respond to the willing suspension of disbelief.
It is about telling a story.
The perspective of the storyteller is never entirely to tell a story.
It is to tell enough of a story for people to feel obliged to willingly suspend disbelief.
This is obligation consequent upon the gift of telling enough: as more modern philosophers might remark, gifts are not free, gifts are reciprocated.
Perhaps Obama is not carrying a talisman at all?
To do so would be a gift to pundits, and those pundits with a vested interest in such matters as people being monkeys will then require the electorate to reciprocate with willing suspension of disbelief.
What might one disbelieve?
Perhaps disbelief in the capacity of anybody but Obama to be an effective President.
It is, after all, about myths.
Perhaps it is a myth being created to explain a ritual - as Mircea Eliade might put it - in an Anarchist moment: a myth to explain the ritual of accepting punditry about a person.

There are now 222,000 Google Images relating to the two words Obama Monkey.
The Mythic image is gathering like an army.
Maybe Greg is correct and there is some substance to the Swift Monkey Hypothesis.
417 You tube "Monkey Obama" references might just be coincidence.
But who would benefit from such rudery?
Obviously not someone who knows nothing of Monkey Magic - or evolution.
