I tried to read it and see if the iLounge glass is 2/3 empty as usual but the site has been down all day.
Traffic, I'm guessing!

Yes, as usual the iLounge review is gets harsh over issues that are a one time experience (Quote: : activation can range from simple to confusing or nightmarish depending on your local service provider) or typical of products of the same ilk ( Quote: : From our perspective, this drop in call performance is unacceptable by phone standards, as it means that active 3G users will need to recharge the device twice a day) To opine that performance is unacceptable while tests by PC mag show that iPhone battery to give the best performance compared to other smart phones shows a lack of perspective.
That said I always use iLounge reviews as a starting place when I plan to buy audio accessories for my iPod.
Jeremy's evaluation of sound quality is spot on.
Just keep in mind that a "B" rated device may actually sound better than an "A-" device if Jeremy doesn't like some feature or how the remote works.
Found this out when I heard the Harmon Kardon Go + Play speakers in the Apple store.
Only B rated because of the design of the remote and dock system.
Otherwise its sound is fantastic.
His review says so too.
It's just not apparent in the overall rating.

Thanks for the summary.
Site is still down for me.
iLounge loves to put the harshest, unproven spin on anything from Apple--and if the truth turns out to be better news, they won't update the article.
If a feature has good points and bad, only the bad will typically get mentioned.
(Look at all their rants about how Apple changed video docking, losing compatibility with some old accessories.
Yet you won't find much praise for the REASON for the change: Apple added high-quality component output!)
My guess: iLounge's editors found them swept into a new "career" that they really don't enjoy.
Living and breathing iPods all day has to get old.
And yet--if it's a profitable site, then it's hard to walk away.
Result: cranky editors with a permanent axe to grind against Apple

Finally got in.
Wow--iLounge lives up to their reputation They are like Mikey in the Life cereal ads.
They hate everything!
Well, they don't really hate it, but their list of "Cons" seems a bit exaggerated:
* Ugly styling compared to old iPhone (isn't that a little TOO subjective to make the Cons list?)
* Warm color calibration instead of cool (despite the fact that neither one is magically "right" and people don't seem to notice unless they see both side by side)
* Variable data speeds (what magic phone doesn't vary?)
* 3G takes more battery life than EDGE (like every other 3G phone--only most get less than the iPhone!
And of course, you can get EGDE battery life any time with one tap in Settings;
And when they say users will "likely" need to charge twice a day...
I think there's a little exaggeration going on!
Those users should choose EDGE or get an emergency battery pack, which are already out)
* Period of initial confusion/frustration for activation (of course, this is the biggest consumer electronics launch in history--any problems with the initial rush are temporary ones!
That's not entirely a fair Con either.)
* Elimination of Firewire charging prevents charging from some old accessories (good to know--but change does happen, it's not the diabolical crime they make it out to be)
* Defects are rare but possible, requiring repair, which Apple is good about (oh no!)
I also like how they put the new contract in the Cons, but don't put the HUGE price reduction in the Pros!
They kind of go hand-in-hand.
ILounge's Cons list makes it sound like the price increase is just for 3G.
The FUD about a mysterious "hitherto unknown screen coating" is amusingly scary too Flee in terror first, ask questions later!
(Having seen the video scratch tests on the new iPhone, I am not living in fear personally.
But ONE person "told them" that a weird mark appeared on the surface...
So it must be some problematic new coating instead of just glass They even recommend adding your own film--which WILL scratch and degrade the image.
Anyone think they are in the pockets of accessory makers?)
I do agree that AT&T should offer an EDGE-only plan too.
But it would still cost more than the old plan: that's how the phone got to be $199, I'm afraid.
And they are STILL harping dishonestly on how Apple changed the video-out connections!
I'm beginning to think iLounge's mode of operation is:
1.
Exaggerate the defects...
Which can be solved by buying accessories.
3.
Profit (indirectly) by selling said accessories.
Their tone really does make me think they want to drum up demand for "solutions" from third parties.

Ouch !
I do tend to agree with certain points though.
I've seen plenty pics of new 3G's with smudges and scratches all over them.
Plastic.
Gotta love it.
