ShiVa game publishing, unleash the 3D power of the iPhone ... for free - Indiegamer Developer Discussion Boards
ShiVa game publishing, unleash the 3D power of the iPhone ...
For free.
All you need is at least ShiVa unlimited ( 199 ) and you will be able to create and publish unlimited number of 3D games on iPhone and iPod Touch but also on MacOSX, Windows and Linux !
Now available ...
Don't wait anymore.

 |
|
So is it for free or is it for $199?
And does it let you create Iphone apps from a Windows PC?
The documentation is not very clear on the website.
|
 |
|
Publishing is without any supplement ;-)
You have to create your game with ShiVa (under windows or parallels) but you need a mac OSX to publish your game.

Soo.. which bit is free then?

It's free to all existing customers.
Which is a lot more than you can say for other comparable apps.
One in particular has just announced a very expensive additional license for IPhone publishing, while still requiring people to own a standard license.
I think it's very generous.

I think I know which one your talking about and it's much more expensive by comparison!
I mentioned the fact I thought it was a little on the expensive side and me (a few other vigilantes) got our ends bitten off for making such wild claims

Wait.
So I need Windows to create the game but OSX to compile it?

I think he meant that you can create it with any computer (windows or Mac os) but you need a mac os to publish it, sadly.
Okay the first to release an app that lets you create and publish Iphone games directly from a PC will make a killing

that actually will NEVER get released, because there is no way to publish a iphone game from PC.
Apple introduced digital signing stuff so you must own a Mac AND a iphone/ipod touch, + $99 developer registration.

Kind of true.
Correct me if I'm wrong, goldzilla, but it sure looks like Shiva is Windows-only.
It may work under Parallels (virtual machine), but 3D acceleration is not spectacular in a VM.
I've used some modeling apps that way and it's not ideal.
I'll go ahead and mention the name of the "comparable product": The Unity iPhone publishing may be an expensive add-on, but AFAIK it's the only product of this kind that allows you to test the game right on the iPhone hardware while still connected to it running live in the editor, too.
Is there any way that can be done with Shiva?
I'm not shilling for Unity here, I'm asking because I'm interested in both products and I want to get my facts straight.

Okay so I guess I'll have to wait for the "iPhone killer" then

There is nothing stopping you from downloading the code signing certificates onto a PC...
I'm not sure what Xcode is actually doing with them, but eventually someone is bound to hack together a PC-based iPhone dev platform that can interface to real hardware.

 |
|
Can you actually write code with this stuff or is it a "GameMaker" type application?
|
 |
|
If you checked the site, there's a scripting language (LUA) with some screenshots

Anyone from Unity want to chime in?
Just from adoption rate and enthusiasm, it seems like Unity has the mindshare right now...
|
 |
|
Since Unity's already been mentioned, what about garages games iPhone offerings (at least in comparison to the previously mentioned), any thoughts on it?
