Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 Breaks 6 GHz OYEH - Guru3D.com Forums
Another good story from the Chinese website Coolaler.com has come to my attention.
It brings along some good news for the Intel followers.
Intel's highest-clocked 45nm Wolfdale processor, the yet unreleased Core 2 Duo E8600 appears to have some great overclocking potential.
Coupled with a DFI LP UT P35 motherboard, 4GB of DDR2 memory, single Radeon HD 4870 card, and (LN) cooling the E8600 CPU was able to reach 6146.9MHz (614x10).

Nice copy and paste job
Nice overclock, gonna need some exteme high end cooling on that.
Continued operation at those frequencies and volts would otherwise cause irrepairable damage to the CPU itself.
Im willing to bet they didnt have it powered up at those speeds for very long.

why thank you but still very impressive

Ordered my E8600 eight hours ago, should be here tomorrow or wednesday.
I've seen people getting 4.250GHz on stock voltages with this cpu, the E0 revision seems to be a top overclocker.

Well it maybe obvious that it's done by watercooling, but I do want a confirmation on what kind of cooling is being used for this.
Or maybe it has been already confirmed, but what does "LN" mean?
Liquid Nitrogen
Well, there you go...I don't expect to many people hitting 6 ghz on either water, or air cooling now.
=] You'd have to be REALLY REALLY REALLY GODLY LUCKY for that.
I'd probably do you if you could.

Just to burst the thread makers bubble....
The E8500 Can also get to 6ghz and has been done quite alot
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=178378
Also a Q9650 can also get to 6ghz so this is nothing new

=o
Quad core at 6 ghz...I think that wins.
Imagine encoding with that thing!!
You'd have to train a team of monkeys to continuously keep the LN2 pots topped up for that
Liquid Nitrogen
edit: oops, this one was answered allready

I'v heard theses things can do 5ghz on air
4ghz is easy on air.
4.4 is Doable.
5 Ghz, is really pushing it.
6 Ghz is pretty darn impressive.
It does show the overclocking ability of the processor, if someone can hit 6 Ghz on Liquid Nitrogen then surely it will got to 4-4.5 Ghz on air.

You have to read deep into some of these articles
Alot of these guys are disabling 2 cores to get max OC out of the Quads
I think thats kinda deceiving

I can't wait! I'll have mine tomorrow.
Was really going for an E8500 but no one is releasing the E0 stepping yet.
Ordered on of these so I know for sure what I'm getting.
I have pretty decent air cooling for the moment and hoping to hit around 4.5ghz.
