Do we also need to manually update our NVIDIA Control Panels? - Guru3D.com Forums
NVIDIA has released a Control Panel with a higher version number:
NVIDIA Control Panel 2.1.270
Is this higher version numbered control panel something I should be using or should I just disregard it?
I couldn't find any information about NVIDIA's control panel differences and even if there was some significant difference between control panels I wouldn't know where to find their control panels.
Anyone know what this version does that your present Control Panel doesn't do?

Hmm...
My Control Panel is version 2.2.220.05.
|
 |
|
2.1.270.00 is my installed version, running 178.13 drivers.
|
 |
Looks like my concern may now be a moot one.
After installing the September 25th 178.13 WHQL drivers my control panel became version 2.1.270.00.
Nothing in it appears to standout as unique to me.

Digital Vibrance bug fixed?

"2.1.270.02" here with 178.13 vista x64
|
 |

I also have 178.13 installed, XP32 SP3.

I wonder why my version is different?

Isn't that concern a driver issue rather than a control panel matter?
If so perhaps you would like to post your question in the 178.13 driver thread.

Nvidia control panel ?
:-D old control panel (driver settings) is better - with some other tweaks in windows register :-)
Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies] "ContextUIPolicy"=dword: 1 "CplGroupUIPolicy"=dword: 2

I used to use that tweak too Seno.
It would enable me to go to the NVIDIA Control Panel's View menu and select "Use Classic NVIDIA Control Panel".
Unfortunately for some time now the newer drivers killed the ability to use that tweak.
Just for the heck of it though and because of your kindly prompt I tried the tweak again - the option to select the Classic Control Panel in the View menu no longer will appear.
The 'tweak no longer works' has been discussed on forums:

That is not true.
I am using the 178.13 on Vista32 and added the following tweaks to the registry:
Quote: : [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies]
"SedonaDisable"=dword: 2
"ContextUIPolicy"=dword: 1
"TaskbarUIPolicy"=dword: 1
"CplGroupUIPolicy"=dword: 2
"DevPolicies"=dword:
"ModePolicies"=dword: Leave the other settings as they are, just add/change the ones Quote: d above and - bang, there it is again the old, bold Nividia Control Panel.
If you switch to the New Nvidia Panel once, these settings are gone, and you would have to modify them again, when you want to see the conventional panel again.

Thanks for your contribution Rapier.
Prior to applying your tweak these are the only contents I had in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies
"ContextUIPolicy" =dword: 1
"TaskbarUIPolicy" =dword: 1
"CplGroupUIPolicy" =dword: 2
After applying your tweak:
"DevPolicies" =dword:
"ModePolicies" =dword:
"ContextUIPolicy"=dword: 1
"TaskbarUIPolicy"=dword: 1
"SedonaDisable" =dword: 2
"CplGroupUIPolicy"=dword: 2
A SedonaDisable"=dword: 2 disables my NVIDIA Control Panel from launching.
Likewise a 1 Value,
Only "SedonaDisable"=dword: allows me to launch the control panel and when it opens, the Classical Version is not available in the Viewmenu
I did a bit more forum searching and did find some users who were able to 'activate' their View menu to display the Classical View option - they did so by only adding "SedonaDisable"=dword: 2 without adding the
"DevPolicies"=dword:
"ModePolicies"=dword:
that you added in.
I tried that but still no luck.
Looks like I will have to remain with the new style NVIDIA Control Panel and since I access it infrequently I will rationalize that it is not much of a bother to scroll or enter a couple of extra times to find what I want in that panel.
Thanks,
Supersnake
