Anyone else excited for Warhammer: Age of Reckoning? - Guru3D.com Forums
The game is a little over a month away, and I am totally pumped.
I know several people that are in the beta that absolutely love it.
One my friend who is incredibly picky when it comes to games, and even more picky when it comes to MMO's even loves it.
Damn them for not picking me for beta!!!
I am most likely going to play a Black Orc on an open RvR server.

 |
|
I've played the beta a few months, didn't quite like it.
It's good, no doubt.
But not my cup of tea.
Haven't played for awhile now however, all those pesky bugs and what not are perhaps gone by now.
|
 |
Looking forward to it for sure.
I'm kinda disappointed they removed some classes (mainly KotBS, as that is what I was going to play) and starting areas but whatever...
I really just want to play it at this point

Charlie you bastard!
Give me your key!
hehe
|
 |
Im in the open beta also which you can download from august the 15th if you've pre-orderd the collectors edition.
Disappointed that they couldnt get all the classes and maps done in time but oh well it was expected to.
To good to be true.
btw i cant understand why they ditched the coolest class of them all.
BLACK GUARD
Anyways im going War Preist.

Yeah, I am hoping that August 15th (friday) = download the beta, August 18th (monday) = play the beta

I really just want to play it at this point They didn't cut any starter areas, they cut four capital cities and you don't start in your capital.

Oh, my bad. Well that still sucks
|
 |
I'm going to give it a try.
Not sure about the class I will play, or faction.
I'll probably wait to see how they balance out, I don't like playing on the side with more numbers.
|
 |
I cant wait for warhammer to come out.
I have heard so much about it and from the clips that they have released it looks sick.
But i got to ask think it will be better then the new wow expansion comming out in nov/oct?
|
 |
I been playing beta for about 3 weeks now, great game.
I'll post some screens and tell some stories next week when NDA lifts.

I was super hyped for this game.
Now I'm a bit doubtful.
The city cuts don't matter to me that much - larger city, a more focussed community with more content, is a fair trade off.
The class cuts totally irk me though.
Four out of six races now have a class cut from them, meaning they're underrepresented in terms of the 4 archtype classes of DPS, tank, ranged and support.
For example, without a Dark Elf tank, how will they fare against the full High Elf regiment?
Relying on other races to tank their lines is impractical, and nerfing/buffing certain classes will mean imbalance one way or another.
Until they reach balance, I'm wary of touching it.
A question though: Is ransacking capitals fully instanced?
Is there any point in time where any/all of the offensive team can concurrently attack/loot the city?
(i.e. not instanced)

(i.e. not instanced) Like has already been said on other forums, the Chosen and Black Orc can tank for Destruction players.
It's Order versus Destruction not just high Elves v Dark Elves or Orc v Dwarf.
However the Dark Elf healer will be getting tanking abilities apparently.
Not having their own proper tank shouldn't matter, but we will see come launch.
Once you break into an enemy city the attackers and defender are split up into certain instances with different objectives (atleast thats what i read).
However there keeps/forts in each races lands that must be controlled before you can attack a capital city, these sieges are open world with no instancing.
So keep fights will be like old DAoC with a couple hundred fighting each other.
Like you i was upset about the classes being cut (i was planning on either having a Black Guard or Choppa as my main :/), but just read the information on those classes and then think on it.
Thye were quite boring, the choppa - can only use choppas as weapons and just stood there whacking away, the Black Guard - could only use Halberds and used the WoW Warrior mechnics of rage building ect, The Hammerer - could only use Hammers and stand hammering people, Knight of The Blazing - standard defencive tank boring boring boring.
These classes would have been very limited in the items you could use and had no real stand out.
Mythic did say though that if they find a way to make them fun to play then they will bring the classes back.

The class cuts and lack of tanks are NOT an issue, even in beta.
I have played ALL battlefronts at tier1-4 and never once had lack of tank issues.
I can't really remember the capital city thing, but I believe only the king fight is instanced, right?
I will say this though the cities are nothing like what you've seen in WOW, and even the fortresses that replaced the missing cities dwarf WOW cities in comparison as far as size goes.
Even with the simplest of things you're doing there's such a sense of immersion in the game.
Mythic just absolutely nailed it, and this game is a PVPers wet dream.

Might give it a try when it's out, but from the videos I've seen and such, it looks abit...
WoW-ish?
I'm still playing Conan alot, but as I approach endgame I realise there's not a whole lot to do yet.
I'm guessing it's in Funcom's best interest to release more endgame content before the launch of WAR though, so we'll see.

Ill wait for reviews.
Was excited for AoC, and that game seriously tanked.

90%b of MMO's have that style of combat, if it's the look and art style your talking about the there's an answer to that too.
Warhammer as an IP, the artwork, the table top game is just over 25 years old.
WarCraft as an IP is just over 10 years old.
The rumours are that GamesWorkshop and Blizzard were going to make the first Warhammer Fantasy Battles video game, however GamesWorskshop didn't like how it was turning out and pulled the plug.
Blizzard kept the game they had been working on and renamed it WarCraft while GamesWorkshop had another compnay do a Warhammer game later that would become Shadow of The Horned Rat.
GW preferred this as it was more true to the table top game.
There are other rumours though that GW have taken Blizzard to court over copyright infringement over both WarCraft being like Warhammer and StarCraft being like Warhammer 40,000.
And as the rumours go both cases were settled out of court, Blizzard paying up.
When you look at a Warhammer Orc and then a WarCraft Orc then it is obvious that there is some truth to the rumours.
Warhammer Orc's were very original until WarCraft came out with identical ones.
And as we all know how unoriginal Blizzard are, would it really suprise anyone?

Im afraid any MMO, is just setting them selves up for a fall, every one wants some thing new, over WOW, but no one can make a game as good as WOW out of the box.
Lots will leave before they can get the game to were it should be, this is what happend to AOC, its a great game, its just 6months to a year away from being good enough to hold ppl in it, 75% of the AOC ppl went back to WOW, and i see the same for Warhammer, its just not going to be enough to hold ppl.

Actually the problem is that most MMO companies either don't give their development teams the time and money or don't have the money to launch the game in a decent state.
I think Vivendi gave Blizzard a budget in the region of 60 - 70 million dollars and it took 5 years to develop.
It's a really really basic game as far as MMORPG's are concerned so they would have spent a massive amount of the development time on polishing the game.
Now take Funcom with AoC or Sigil with Vanguard, both had new innovative features which would have increased the development and increased the development costs.
In both cases the companies ran out of money and had to launch their games early and in it has to be said a beta state.
This was the only way to secure the funds to keep the projects going.
This is an area that will not affect Mythic with WAR, EA have invested a hell of a lot of money in the game.
And if you read the E3 reports on WAR, people were saying that in it's stage of development WAR is the most polished MMO they have ever seen.
Now take into account it is primarily a PvP game so it automatically caters to a different audience than the average WoW player.
As WoW is primarily a PvE game with PvP tacked on as an afterthought really.
And i'm willing to bet that EA will advertising the hell out of this game.

This will not be like those other MMO's.
I know that gets tossed around as well, but this game is different and it WILL deliver.
Now I know the games style will not cater to everyone, but there are large aspects of WOW that do not cater to the masses as well.
Take WOWs Battleground system for instance.
When is the last time you've been in a game where the numbers were even or there were no AFKers leeching honor?
This will be non existent in Warhammer.
If you are a lazy leech who wants his "free" epics at the price of jumping in place for a couple days, then this game won't be for you.
It's coming guys!

I think this thread needs a boost back to the frontpage
NDA is gone and the vibe I'm getting from beta testers is that this game is great.
I passed on AoC, but I'll definitely be picking this one up.
This game has actual sieges already implemented and I love the idea of Public Quests that they've done.
It looks to me like they've actually delivered on their promises.

Any comment from open weekend??

That was an excellent cinematic.
Watch it now. NOW I SAY!
|
 |
My status with the beta has been bumped up to Elder, so I get to test really cool stuff ,but it has an NDA so I can't talk about it.
All I can say from the beta front is every patch is making this game better and better.
I'm really excited for release, and I've been looking forward to playing live for a very long time.

If anyone has a key they're not using I'd like to play!
