MS Paint - This is Fascinating - Eidos Forums
Hi Playmates,
Over on CMF we are having a bash at a fun contest - similar to the Paint Contest we had here on Eidos a while back!
Members just have to (try to) draw a flare
But we're all so worried about our efforts, particularly after I stumbled across this little beauty on YouTube
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uk2sPl_Z7ZU
If you think you can draw a mere flare from the Tomb raider games, using MS Paint then please put us to shame and join in Oh and....we have 4 weeks to present.
This thread is just about the rules and the disasters heh heh!!
I have to say, I might have to pause on that video to see how he does it.
It's amazing!

Just call me fumble fingers.
Amazing what you can do when you know how.

A friend of mine sent me that one a while back, pretty neat.
The REAL trick to it is this guy can draw or copy other art with any media.
The skill needed is the same to do it in chalk or crayon or water color, any 2D art medium really.
He builds his MS paint picture the same as any painter would, He starts with outlining the general shapes and structure, then he blocks in the basic parts with color and continues from there.
The basics are really simple, the tough part is doing it freehand.
So the skill needed here isn't being clever with MS Paint or any computer program, the skill needed is just being a really solid copy artist.
That's how the old masters, and most masters, for that matter, learned, by copying great art
So, start practicing now!!!

TBM and BLOWHARD
My effort thus far is diabolical My flare is reminiscent of a chipolata that lacks both symmetry and substance.
The background looks strangely like the reminants of a Henry Lee Lucas-esque crime scene as opposed to the ambient TR4 skyline that I had so desperately tried to recreate.
Furthermore, I left school with a steady hand and a good art qualification.
But seemingly something very questionable has gone unquestionably wrong.
My cyber pencil is all out of lead and my elbow grease has smudged the ink.
I just knew I should have stuck to a simpler theme such as a modest Van Gogh

I saw the MS Paint Mona Lisa video a while ago.
It made me appreciate what a simple little accessory program like that could do.

And the BIG WINNER for the best descriptive Quote: ever on this forum goes to Lo!
Quote: : Henry Lee Lucas-esque crime scene I haven't seen your picture but with that Quote: I know exactly what you mean Henry Lee was really quite a guy you know
Lo, you hit on another point;
What makes a really successful artist is the ability to make your mistakes and shortcomings work as well as your strong points.
How is that done?
I certainly dont know how to do it although I've managed to do it by accident a number of times.
Get that "smudged grease and lead" to work positively in your art and you just might be the next cyber Da Vinci (or at least you'll have a good chance at winning the paint competition )

I'll make it seem like a master-piece then (in comparison to this):

I love EA on YT. This is one of my favorite works from him

(Yes Henry Lee Lucas the movie was somewhat of a bloodbath BH, not unlike the road accident that is my current image )
I'm not sure it's possible to lose one's artistic ability but maybe to lose one's discipline without sufficient practice.
I never had much of a talent for working with paints or colours per se.
I was pretty nifty with regular sketching and also using black ink fibre tip pens - it's challenging to create several different textures using one black ink pen by using dots, widely or narrowly spaced apart to create varying degrees of shadow, for example.
That Angelina Jolie image started off looking a little dodgy and amateurish but after a lot of touching up it turned out exceptionally well.
Especially since the artist was drawing that upside down.
The mind boggles
Edit: Stunning entry RG.
Will you be sending it in?
Hehe

I thought that was a mickey-take at first, Andy.
But you see the slow-mo at the end at it was programmed and pre-set to fire out those shots of paint.
But someone had to design the scatter ratio and such.
Excellent stuff!!

THAT'S AMAZING!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YNb899E4mVU It's The Gimp.
Better than paint.
|

Yep, Gimp is MUCH better.
I still ask why limit yourself?
No true art has any limitations whatsoever
