eBay Forums: Did you see the announcements? They ...
I know it's hard to believe, but they did.
There is now going to be a pantsuit category in vintage.
It will be in the 60s/70s category and the 70s/80s category.

Long live the jumpsuit!
oh wait, is a pantsuit a jumpsuit?
See a seller and i were having an argument over this..
and bf said "pantsuit is what hilary wears" "jumpsuit is this".
Lol
|
 |
Ahhh, you are right.
They are not the same thing.
Pants and jacket= pantsuit.
One piece pants & top= jumpsuit.
Pantsuit could have stayed under suits.
Think they would change it if we asked?

Wait, who asked for this change?
I can't imagine someone from VC&A suggesting this - it makes no sense and serves no purpose whatsoever.
Pantsuit = suit, for which we already have a category.
Now, if they had added jumpsuits, that would have been more helpful...but they didn't.
Also, not sure how I feel about lingerie being under the rest of the VCA umbrella - I hope the lingerie folks don't lose exposure because of it.
Sorry, not trying to be Debbie Downer, but I don't see anything positive about that - just looks like needless shuffling - typical out-of-touch eBay.

Oh, no I mean, I appreciate that they're trying to improve the categorization, but it's jumpsuits that so desperately needs its own subcategory!
There's just nowhere appropriate to put jumpsuits, whether they're long pants or shorts.
Basically it's "Other," which is the kiss of death.
DARN IT!!!
So close yet so far ...

This board is one tough place to be this week.
Wait, who asked for this change?
I can't imagine someone from VC&A suggesting this - it makes no sense and serves no purpose whatsoever.
Pantsuit = suit, for which we already have a category.
Now, if they had added jumpsuits, that would have been more helpful...but they didn't.
I obviously think it was a good change or I wouldn't have taken the time to start a thread on it and point it out to readers who might not have seen the announcement.
Sellers asked for something.
Ebay sort of listened and promptly made the changes that were requested.
That's thread-worthy.
There were a lot of posts about making a jumpsuit category because they are becoming more popular again and we weren't sure which category they should go in.
Some people were putting them into suits, some into dresses, some into pants.
None of those are completely correct.
As Pinups and I both said, they messed up the wording and it shouldn't be "pantsuits", as that would go under "suits", but rather "jumpsuits".
BUT they did listen to us and that is a rarity on Ebay these days.
The changes haven't taken effect and won't until early October.
So that gives us a week or so.
Maybe a bunch of us could write and ask them to change the name so that it fits better.
If nobody wants to do that, then let the thread die.
What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity.

Nothing really to add, but an aside: Derek Lam calls his contemporary jumpsuits "trouser gowns:" "Jumpsuits are kind of like a dress with legs," Lam said.
"One-stop dressing."
|
 |
You know I'll write splendid
Nictesla..
I see a lot of sellers using dress in with their jumpsuits..
Interesting about trouser gowns.
Anyone want to start a new KW?

Splendidthreads, I really appreciate your having posted the update.
I hope you didn't take my dismay as being directed at you!
And sorry to be so dumb, but to whom do I shoot an e-mail to plead the case for a jumpsuit category?
I think we should all write in.
A jumpsuit isn't a dress and isn't really just pants.
Definitely needs its own subcategory, especially considering the growing popularity.

Not at all MC! I think I was typing while you were writing.
I keep switching between windows without hitting "post", so I'm usually behind.
I wrote through the link on the announcements page and then to the powerseller's contact link.
I've tried writing to pinks on different topics but have never received a response.
If you are able to contact one, that might work.
If I can keep the window active, I'll see what Live help says.
The subcategory as it is as "pantsuits" is pretty useless to us.
I hope they'll change it.

I wasn't attacking you either, splendid - you are backing the jumpsuit addition, correct?
And not pantsuit?
So we are in agreement, yes?
My post was clear irritation with eBay for either making a useless change or taking an honest suggestion from VCA and getting it wrong, not with you...

Yesterday (or was it this morning before work??) I saw the anouncement about pantsuits.
There was link somewhere about sending suggestions.
I used it yesterday to suggest a category for "jumpsuits & playsuits/rompers" and for this to be a subcategory for both vintage and modern clothing.
I hope they chage the wording.
Somewhere (I can't remember where) there is a "suggestions" page where you can email suggestions to them.
If I recall correctly (probably not since it is late) go to the announcements section where they talk about the revised listing categories.
Somewhere on that page should be info on how to submit suggestions.
I did so yesterday and if everyone submits this suggestion it may work

We could also try contacting Maeve or Lulu - I know when we had category snafus before, they were a great help in passing the message along!
|
 |
Just now saw this latest suggestion.
Again, another lame question.
How does one contact Maeve or Lulu?
I know we have very little, if any, time left to try to make this change happen.
|
 |
I don't know how to do it so that it gets through MC.
I've never heard back from either when I've tried to contact them in the last month.
Want to see your Ebay dollars at work?
part of the response to my email to my powerseller rep:
I can see your concern with regard to this issue.
EBay welcomes comments from members of our Community, and we appreciate your suggestions.
This type of communication helps us improve our services and meet your needs.
However, our company policy doesn't allow us to accept suggestions unless we specifically request them.
We hope that you understand that this policy can avoid future misunderstandings if new products, services, and features developed internally by eBay employees seem similar or even identical to a member's idea.
Wait, there's more.
This is from the regular CS rep.
Notice his location.
I sent the question through the US site.
Thanks for writing to eBay.
My name is and your feedback about the set up of the seasoned vintage clothing is very important to us.
Your idea has been forwarded to eBay Canada's Product Development team for further review.
If you have any additional suggestions, you can use this page to send your suggestions faster:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/newtoebay/suggest.html
Thanks again for taking the time to write in to us today and I appreciate your writing us with your ideas to improve the way the seasoned vintage clothing category is set up.
I've been doing this for a while (selling/buying vintage) and wanted to express that, so in my question I made note that the question was coming from a seasoned vintage clothing seller.
The CS rep had no idea what I was asking about and didn't even look into it enough to know that Ebay, Canada or otherwise, doesn't have a "seasoned vintage category".
I'll give them the points for sort of listening to start with.
I have little faith that they are going to hear us about changing the name of the new subcategories.

I have little faith that they are going to hear us about changing the name of the new subcategories.
Good point Splendid....but like you stated, it's falling on deaf ears.
Vintage is like a flea on a dog....we're so small and in their eyes we don't count very much...sad, but true.
I've submitted ideals also, and gotten the same "CANNED" response, of: our company policy doesn't allow us to accept suggestions unless we specifically request them.
Maybe they need to rethink that one!

I thought the announcement asked for suggestions and had the link on it.
When I emailed them they sent back a canned response saying thank you and that their team would look in to it and that they couldn't respond back about it.
Basically I got the impression that they were going to forward the suggestion to the "team" (maybe the trash can) who would then spend hours researching and debating the pros and cons lol, I'm so deluded

Seasoned vintage clothing category
Is this the category where we list particularly "ripe" vintage clothes?
LOL!

I just got a reply.
Here's what Quote: :
Vintage and modern clothing need both a jumpsuit (one piece long pants) and a romper/playsuit (one piece shorts or bubble bottom).
These have become very popular and don't fit correctly into any current category.
They aren't suits because they are one piece.
They aren't shorts or pants because they basically have an attached shirt/top.
Thank you!
Here's the reply I just got:
Dear red3rose,
Thank you for writing in with your category suggestions.
I am happy to report that we will be adding a "Jumpsuits" category under Women's Vintage Clothing >
1965-76 and 1977-89, in the early October timeframe.
On the category change announcement page (http://pages.ebay.com/categorychanges/Clothing.html), it was incorrectly listed as "Pantsuits" (category numbers 166698 and 166699), but this has been corrected and will be added as 'Jumpsuits' as you and other members have requested.
After the upcoming October changes, we will not be making any more change to categories this year due to the holidays, but we will definitely consider your suggestions for rompers/playsuits in the January timeframe.
Thanks again for taking the time to write;
We really appreciate input from expert members.
Sincerely,
Mahina

Well since the jumpsuit/pantsuit debate is splained.
Can someone tell me what they're doing with the Lingerie catagory?
I don't know what that means "Located within Parent".
Grace

 |
Yay! Thanks for posting that Redrose.
I was convinced that there was no chance it was going to happen.
Galetime, the way I read it, they're moving lingerie to go under the "vintage clothing/women's" category instead of breaking those two subcategories up under eras.
It makes no sense.
I asked them about that too in the 2 mails I sent, but you can see what response I got above.
