Canon G10 DIP switch inside of battery door: Canon Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review
Anyone have any ideas?
It's difficult to see but it's immediately on top of the SD card slot.
I couldn't find any reference to it in the manual.
I've had the camera for about 5 hours.
I walked around San Francisco for a little while tonight shooting some.
I haven't scrutinized the images closely yet but so far the ISO800 performance appears to be significantly better than expected!

Can you post an ISO 800 image?
I am in line for G10 :-)

That switch isn't a DIP Switch, it's to cut off the power when the door is open, all canon Digicams have them

Ahh nice - i should have figured that out!
Here are two images shot tonight at ISO800 in low light (i think i had the compensation set to -1 stop, but i was shooting in manual so it doesn't really matter)
These were just quick snaps and the files here are straight jpgs direct from the camera, nothing was done to them except to export them from iphoto at full size (shrudder...)
The last camera i had was a Leica DLUX.
Had it about 2 years ago for about 3 days and returned it cause of the noise.
The G10 has significantly less noise at ISO800 than that camera did at ISO200.
Tomorrow morning i intend to run through the RAW images and i expect even more!
Granted - it's no full-frame SLR, but it's not bad at all!

First time posting to the forums here - i'm not really digging what it does with the pix - i was just trying to put links in...
hopefully this'll work for you guys..

I Resized them to 6Mp to see how they'd Compare to an F30 or F31 and I'd say the G10 is holding more detail at ISO800 than the two Fuji legends which tend to plastique fine detail out at IOS800
Soooo if you see the cam as Hi-rez at low ISO and a Fuji F30/F31 at ISO800 (with IS and a better lens etc) then you're doing just fine ..
The G9/A650 doesn't quite make it at 800 compared to the two Fujis though they do OK at 400 so the G10's DIGIC-4 Chip is doing a good job ..
That's going by those two samples and my experience with the F30/31

Adam -
So in that case then I presume that on such as any cams of this type - the pure non-dSLR I suppose you could say - there is no way that you can get such as shutter-count or other info that I believe is got from a dSLR with the 'technique' of opening the door then a bit of button clicking to give detail on the screen ..

Doubt it - you can't get the click count from compacts as a rule and a lot of DSLRs either, in fact, only the 1 series in Canon stores it anywhere (unless the 5D2 does - the 5D1 didn't) - Nikons from the D50 onwards do but the only compacts which do are the Kodaks and that's only because the only way to reset the counter is to replace the mainboard..

Take a look at this page:
http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ
- particularly the section
"...
[It has been found that some cameras now also support finding a "vers.req" file in the same way.
Note that it is called "vers.req" and not just "ver.req".
That extra S in the filename now allows you to even see the total number of shots that have been taken with your camera with the same keys pressed multiple times.
For further info see this thread on the new CHDK Forum."
The total number of shutter actuations can be seen on my G5 and G9.
Handy little trick

Interesting - Thanks - I've never been able to find out the counts in my older DSLRs, I'm guessing the D60 is over 300,000 (just on its third shutter) but canon UK stated that at the time (about 1DS2 / 30D era) that the only cams which held the shutter count were the 1 series .
