Tip: Lightzone at a very discounted price: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review
Just in case there's people out there interested in trying out Lightzone (raw developer), MacRumours has it as part of it's discount bundle for 49.99, instead of the regular 129.99.
http://www.mupromo.com/deal/593/bundle
I have no affiliation whatsoever with MacRumors, and I'm not even participating on their "affiliate" program, where you get money back from indicating it to other people.
But as many people have demonstrated interest in this software in the forum, I'm just letting you know.

You're right in that it doesn't run on Linux, but since you can get a bash prompt on Macs, they're at least usable.
Better than another operating system where you have to download cygwin to make it at all usable.

It'd be nice to take advantage of that cross platform capability and have a single license for multiple operating systems in case you dual boot.
Unfortunately that offer is for the Mac-only version...
:-P

I have a few days left on my Lightzone trial of the full program, and find it to be useful and unique in the array of processing options, but there is one drawback that will keep me from buying it.
The viewing screen is too small for enlarging and seeing the entire frame.
Working with a small frame or shifting it back and forth is just not acceptable for me.
I've found this in several other programs, and while I find the options to be fun and even useful, this could never replace my Silkypix for RAW conversion, there is just no comparison to the view you get with Spix, not to mention the colors that Spix always gets better than anyone else.
So far, the best combination I have found is to convert in Spix and do final processing in my simple Elements.
I'm sure a more sophisticated processor would use something much more complicated, but I am just a lowly amateur squirrel shooter....and it works well for me.

The other day, I had some software to install.
It said it required "Windows or better", so I installed it on the Mac.
LOL!

Thiago,
Thanks very much.
I've wanted to buy LightZone for quite a while now and never could work it into my budget.
Really appreciate the heads up.
So happy I was surfing the Pentax forum today.

I'm glad that someone actually found it useful.
That was my objective, not to start a mac vs.
Pc flame war.
Cheers!

Never mind me, I'm just a trouble maker.
One of those quirky Unix geeks.
For what it's worth several of my computers run Linux, two run OSX (g4 powerbook and 24" iMac), and two can be booted into XP, just in case I need to.
I really try to be brand agnostic and remember that my preferences don't reflect the rest of the world.
But, whenever people get into a Mac vs PC pis sing match, I feel compelled to put on my Linux weenie hat.
It could be worse, just to be contrary, I could sing the praises of CP/M, TRSDOS, or RSTS-11.
At this point, I already own Bibble Pro, Photoshop and Lightroom.
Would Lightzone get me anything important that the others don't have that would make it worth the money?

Doesn't the Lightzone license cover all versions?
My Linux number also works on the Windoze release, I can't check it out on the Mac, don't own a machine.

Well, some people rave about the the zone system implemented by Lightzone, but I particularly never quite got it.
It does have some nice developing tools though, and also allows for some local adjustments.
And as for your Unix geekiness, this is for you :-D:
