Collectors Universe Forums - Value Of A Trimmed Card??

What would be the value of a 1965 Topps Steve Carlton SGC holdered "A" (authentic) car be worth.

The card has a NM/MT apperance, but is slightly trimmed.

>> Very, very subjective.

It's not worth anything to me, zero...but on ebay I'm just guessing it may fetch $50 - $75 especially because a few bidders might take a shot of cracking it and submitting it to PSA., and besides it is a very popular card.

I'd accept a trimmed card if it was in the PSA 1 to 5 range, appearance-wise.

If it was trimmed to make it look mint, though, then that's a clear case of fraud and I don't want anything to do with it. So the value of the card you are speaking of, to me, is nothing.

Take it out of the holder and fold one of the corners, though, and then I'll be interested.

As I said in the other thread, I think having it autographed and slabbed by PSA/DNA would be a very good move.

>> i do like that idea..

Do both of these guys sign for free?

Thatis the only way i would want to do it.

>> Also - Some "scammers" might crack it and get it slabbed in a Pro graded holder which may fetch over $100.

>> Free? I don't know...I do know that Carlton does a number of autograph shows so his sig can be gotten at some price.

Also - Some "scammers" might crack it and get it slabbed in a Pro graded holder which may fetch over $100.

>> Why do people pay anything for PRO and GEM graded stuff anyway?

Are they hoping that maybe, just maybe, the cards aren't trimmed or recolored?

HAH! free autograph.

Good one. Sincerely, Johnny Bench >> The auto is free, you just have to pay $50 to get the card back.

>> That's a possibility or a probability, and in my view there's enough newbies that jump in and out of the hobby depending on their mood, who know little to nothing about grading companies, and buy the Pro graded cards believing they're getting a bargain versus those "more expensive" PSA graded cards.

>> Talk to Carlton's son for the details.

I wouldnt pay anything for a trim carded.

Its worthless in my eyes. I Collect Paul O'Neill and am always buying any PSA 9 or PSA 10 O'Neill Cards Your Willing to Sell Me.

I don't have a problem with a card being trimmed, it is no worse than a card in poor condition;

For a carlton rookie, maybe $15 to $20.

A few dollars more if it's in a holder

Before I'd accept the fact that SGC was correct I'd send it to PSA (regardless if I thought it had been there already) I'd get a second opinion. Steve

I would rather see it signed and then slabbed in a PSA holder.

Otherwise it may eventually find its way either into a holder and into the hands of a scammer.

If it is truly trimmed which it looks like to me it is it does not need to be in a PSA Holder with anything more than an authentic or PSA/DNA designation.

You can tell by the scan that it is trimmed? Yet when the SGC grader first saw it it was ok? Only when the guy that proofs it claimed differently? If it measures up (which I think the OP said it did) then I'd want a second opinion. Steve

Steve >> I wouldn't say that I could say for certain that it was trimmed from the scan but there were quite a few of us that said it looked trimmed before he sent it in.

That being said I would probably get it signed, even if there was a fee, and then send it to PSA/DNA. Chris
