Myanmar death toll could surpass 10,000 - Comic Book Resources Forums
Http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080506/...yanmar_cyclone
Is this one of the most ridiculous screw ups by a government regarding natural diasters ever?
Katrina showed how bad we can be, but jesus, 10,000 people seems simply insane, and that's probably even before lack of basic living needs kills even more people.
This is why we need the death penalty
Maybe we should send Rambo in for reals.
10,000 is just ridiculous.
Just saw its 15,000 now.
10,000 just from one town.

To make the death toll 20,000 people?

It's funny how you think the government of Myanmar cares about the people of Myanmar.

10,000 people died in this disaster?
To be honest, I can't relate to that number as more than an abstract statistic.
It's just huge, and I didn't know any of those people.
It's terrible that it happened, but my eyes are dry.
However, I did cry when my dog died.
I realize that probably makes me a bad human being.
No, it doesn't. Do you know anyone that died there?
No. I don't. I don't know anyone that knows anyone in Myanmar.
I'd have a hard time locating it on a map, honestly.
Is it a tragedy? Sure, thousands of people are dead.
Should I be personally, emotionally impacted by it?
Aside from going "Oh, that's bad that thousands of people died.", no.
There's no real reason for it.
You can't grieve for everyone.

No, it doesn't. In fact, I have had people here who have mistakenly told me that I am in fact quite the "sad" example of a human being for voicing the same thing.
Sorry, but one's abstract and the other's personal.
PERFECTLY human.

Looks like 10,000 was being optimistic.
It's up to 22,000 now.
Hopefully, it's like the early reports of casualties from Katrina which were wildly exaggerated.
It's abstract to me, too.
But I'd rather have a lower abstract number.

The BBC Quote: d a pissed-off eyewitness wondering why the government was able to deploy the police & army so quickly and heavily to stop protests, but not here where people NEED it.
100,000 is the new goal.
Woot.
22,000 to 100,000 is a pretty big leap.
It looks like they are trying to compete with the tsunami.
You'd think the junta would want the UN et al to fly in and give supplies to its people.
You'd be wrong.
Why pass out food and water to the needy when you can keep it for yourself?
