And the power company said "let there be light...and air conditioning" - Topic Powered by eve community
Husband just called to tell me the power is on
|
 |
Congrats! I hope they can keep it going.
After our outage in 2004 we lost power for about a week and then it was on and off for another 5 or 6 days as they worked on other areas.

Yeah, me too.
This is the second time they've had it up which I don't understand.
What causes the on and off problems?
Seems like when they fix an area it should be a permanent fix.

Power, like good health, is something you appreciate the most when you don't have it.
o^o o^o o^o o^o o^o o^o
Be a great ancestor.

So I guess that means the Xbox is working again.

Isn't that the truth?
At times it was almost festive though.
There were no battles over the XBox.
We spent more time reading, playing games and visiting the neighbors.
Everyone was outside more chatting and sharing info about what store was open and what they had on stock, etc.
Tonight we will all be back inside watching TV....

Of course!
My husband was out in the backyard clearing up.
He went inside and notice the power was back on.
Evidently, my son and his buddies were already playing.
They didn't even bother to tell my husband the power was on, they just immediately starting playing!!

sounds just like the "good old days" when people talked to thier neighbors and kids played outside.

But I thought you said he was grounded?
So why isn't he outside helping clean up?

Congratulations. I remember how happy I was during the 2003 black out when our power came on.
Did you lose much food?
|
 |
Quote: :But I thought you said he was grounded?

I asked my husband the same thing.
He took the controllers away and handed Matty a rake after he found out the power was on.

Two freezers and a refrigerator full of food.
Fortunately, trash pick-up was today.

So THAT'S why he didn't tell HOEyes about the power being on.
I see you're raising a future forumite over there...

And here I was starting to think you were a push over.

Sneaky, huh?

I'm gonna say it again.
Check your insurance policy.
Ours will replace lost food due to a power outage.
Check into it, you're paying the insurance, might as well get some $ to replace the lost food.

Thanks, I'll look into that.
Of course, they will probably raise premiums.

Honey you had a hurricane.
They're gonna do that anyway.

That is funny, we have spent the last 3 nights outside with the neighbors by a campfire.
Now that we have power again it is like "screw you, I am going inside to watch Everybody Loves Raymond reruns."

Yep, we have holiday block parties but they are planned.
Every night we'd gather in someone's front yard impromptu.
It was fun. Taught the kids how to play Kick the Can.
One neighbor made Margarita's one night.
That kind ended up being a mistake.
No ice left the next morning but everyone tried to get an extra bag for her.

Is your refrigerator running?

The power companies follow the lines and record where they see damage.
If there's alot of damage over a wide area they probably move pretty fast.
In the rush, they probably miss damage they'd only see with a more careful inspection.
Once they energize the lines and the current flows, these weakened areas heat up and fail.
Also, as the power comes on the power company discovers areas that don't get power back.
There's only a limited number of switches built into the lines.
Unfortunately they have shut off areas they 'fixed' because there aren't enough switches to safely isolate the damaged section so the lineman can make the repair.
I have a hunch you'll see your power bounce on and off for a few weeks.
