WorldStart Message Boards - USB stick in washer
My USB memory stick was accidentally put through the washer I forgot to check my pockets!
I thought about drying it with a hair dryer or putting it in a low oven, then remembered a trick from the old days.
I filled a small bowl with sea salt and buried the stick in the salt overnight.
Result?
Wet salt and dry USB stick!
It works perfectly with no loss of data.

We used to have a holiday caravan on the coast and when we closed it up for the winter, we would leave bowls of salt around.
You would be amazed at the amount of water that would collect in the bowls stopped the furnishings getting damp.
Changed the salt every few weeks.
Worked well for all the years we had the caravan.

That's a very good tip BB.
The camping stores sell some kind of a chemical in a container that you set inside a closed up camper or a cabin and it is supposed to keep humidity very low but they are not as cheap as good old "When it rains it pours" Morton salt.
Also several boxes of cheap "Arm And Hammer" baking soda with the lids cut off keeps your camper odor free for months.
Good for you refrigerator at home also.

Good tip, Brian! Thanks.
My wife has been buying some sort of product, in crystal form, that she puts in the closet in the bathroom, so that the steam doesn't cause a lot of mildew.
It works great, but is expensive.
Now, reading your tip, I have to imagine it's nothing but overpriced sea salt!

I don't have one of these newfangled sticks but my kids do.
Copy, paste and sending your tip on the email train.
Thank you, Barney!!
All the other tips about salt are terrific--sent those to ME
