Avery not impressed with Rangers - Canucks Board

Found this on the Sporting News web site.

Sour grapes? You decide Avery not impressed with Rangers' signings Aug 06, 2008 DALLAS - Arrived in Dallas last night for Sean Avery's introduction to Texas - couldn't miss this one.

Sean didn't disappoint.

Naturally, he was the best-dressed person at the press conference.

I'd try to describe what he was wearing, but Mike Heika's explanation is better than I can do: "He was resplendent in a madras plaid out that included long shorts, an unstructured jacket and red leather dress shoes with no socks," Heika wrote on his blog.

See, I wouldn't have known that was an unstructured jacket. I'll be spending time with Avery at the (Texas) Rangers game tonight where he's throwing out the first pitch against the Yankees.

Speaking of New York, Sean couldn't help but get his shots in at the (New York) Rangers.

I only egged him on a little bit. During the presser, he said that by signing with Dallas he was clearly signing with a better team than the one he left.

Later, I asked him point-blank why the Rangers didn't want him back.

That's when he started to warm up: "I don't know," he started.

"That's an interesting question.

I guess it probably came down to money, probably.

That's a tough call.

It's an interesting situation because then they turnaround and spend it on guys they shouldn't have spent it on.

It's going to be an interesting situation, certainly I'll sit back and watch.

New York is a tough place to play.

Markus Naslund is going to have a tough time, so is Wade Redden.

New York fans aren't going to put up with those guys.

I don't think that they're going to live up to the expectations." He concluded with: "I've gone to a better team." Craig Custance Blog This post has been edited by NRICH111: Yesterday, 04:02 PM

Who does avery think he is saying naslund wont live up to his expectations,if anything he will surpass his expectations, cause there not very high.

I expect no less from Avery. I hope he has a horrible season.

Avery falls into the "What have you done for me lately" category.

Hope Hodichuk punches im the snotbox!

Ya hordichuk better knock the crap out of him This post has been edited by canucks#01fan: Yesterday, 01:20 PM

Funny thing is, he's right.

Naslund and Redden is perennial underachievers, and for an organization that was finally turning around its image of overpaying for veteran underachievers (with the exception of Gomez, and yes they did overpay for Drury but he is not an underachiever IMO) and developing an image of youth inspired, exciting hockey, these were strange signings. Say what you want about Avery, but when he focuses on playing hockey and less on being a douche, he is a very effective player. Season Team League GP G A PTS +/- PIM PCT 2007 NY Rangers NHL 57 15 18 33 6 154 12.0 2006 Total LA/NYR NHL 84 18 30 48 1 174 7.2 Last year only played in 57 games and had 33 points.

I would take him for our third line.

Burrows/Kesler/Avery

Avery is underrated.... Quote: Rob Davison Will score the first goal of the season...!

Burrows/Kesler/Avery I don't disagree with that but that seems to be the problem with him.

Quote: avery is underrated.... Yeah, he is, but only because of the crap that he pulls. If he cut the crap and wasn't such an attention whore he would be a very decent player in this league and someone I would want on my team.

How many times does Avery play against Washington this coming season?

I want to see Brashear knocking Avery out Go away Sundink! Quote: It's spelled McClean! Blasphemy!

Have to agree with what Avery says. Redden is not worth his money. Naslund has been on a decline since the accident. Move 1: Draft Hodgson Move 2: Pick up Wellwood Move 3: Pick up Bernier Move 4: Sign Demitra Demitra, Bernier, Wellwood, Hordichuk, Johnson, Davison >>>

Naslund, Morrison, Miller, Isbister, Ritchie, Younger, Grittier, Tougher, and Better Gillis >>>

Nonis Sig Credit to morrison rocks7

The "crap" that he pulls on the ice is what makes this guy good.

Avery needs to be avery in order to be effective.

He shows up to play every single day, there are times he crosses the line a bit but the intensity this guy brings to the games is unmatched. burrows - kesler - avery!! any team in the nhl would hate playing against this line..

With burrows and avery on the ice everyone would b lookin over their shoulders and expecting to get hit everytime they touch the puck.

Quote: avery is underrated.... Yes he is, but that doesn't change the fact that he's a classless POS.

Averys nothing but an idiot.

Just cause he got ditched by a team he makes up pathetic excuses. 1000th post on 8:36 September 29th, 2007/ 2000th post on 10:42 November 14th, 2007/ 3000th post on 11:58 July 9, 2008/ 4000th post on 11:42 August 1, 2008 Quote: Redbull gives you wings! An Avery/Hull/Turco combo's going to be great for endless media clips coming from Dallas. He's right about Dallas being the better team. The concensus on Redden and Naslund from their old fanbase is that their best days are well behind them.

And I don't immediately recall a player ever getting better after going to NY in their later years.

Maybe Nylander? Rucinsky?

But that might be more due to the rule changes coming in at the same time. I like Avery a lot more after these comments. Now all he has to do is disappear in the tighter and tougher western conference and i'll be even more happy.

Burrows/Kesler/Avery 33 pts isn't that good for a 3.8m dollar player (what he'll be making in Dallas) Naslund is getting 4m in NY had 55 pts last year ok AVery played less games but Naslunds PPG avg was 0.67 Avery's was 0.57 so how can someone who scored less then Naslund and will be making nearly the same amount of money say NY is wasting there money on Naslund!!? OK some may argue that Avery can score and be a good gritty agitator so what so can Burrows who only had two less pts last year then Avery, didn't get suspended and never was a distraction to his teammates, Burrows will be making 0.483m this coming season or 3.3m less then Avery!!! anyone still think Avery deserves his contract???

How about this little tidbit of information: This past season, the Rangers were 33-14-10 with Avery in the lineup and 9-13-3 without him. Is it worth an average of 3.8 per?

Maybe not, but it is no coincidence that they were a better team with him in the lineup!
