survey-does cold make it worse - Back Pain: Support Group at WebMD
Hi TreeDad,, good to see you posting today.
1.
Yes the cold temps make my pain worse.
2.
I have been told by my surgeon that it is due to the barometric pressure that makes teh pain worse.
He said that any change in that pressure would affect me.
3.
The only thing I do different in winter is to stay inside where it is warm and go out only when I have to...
To much snow & Ice around here to fall on.

Yep,
Cold makes me worse.
Actually, changes in season, particularly going from warm months to cold.
My wife notices it too.
What to do?
Gosh, I don't know except to be aware and take it easy at the start of he day.
Warming up before doing anything physical, drinking warm beverages in the morning.
I like your signature..
Mine also....Phil

Hi Treedad.
Not only does the cold bother me the high humidity does too.
I have noticed when it is cold that I can feel the prosthetic in my femur from my hip replacement.
I rarely feel the fracture site.
I use heat.
Sometimes a wet heat.
It feels soo good.

Hiya Tree-
1) yes it does.
I now hate living in wisconsin, and i wanna move to florida by my brothers!!
2) i have no idea why the cold hurts, but i know that when it is going to rain, the pressure changes and somehow that affects us.
3) i would like to turn the heat up, but it's too expensive for heating oil.
I also just don't do anything i used to-no gun season, no snowmobiling, no sledding, no ice skating...i still manage to go ice fishing at least once a winter, but only because i know i can hideout in my brother's shanty!!
that's all i have!

1) YES!!!!
2) For one the change in the barometric pressure, the degree of humidity, and most of all cold tenses up the muscles and causes spasms which can squeeze nerves.
3) Always stay warm, wear gloves always when outside.
And scarf too. Be careful not to fall on ice.

Hi Treedad,
I live in the desert.
What's cold? The temperature dropped below 100 today, in fact it is only 81 right now.
I do not think the cold gets me but the change in barometric pressure.
Because of the nerve damage in my feet they get real cold so I sleep with a heating pad under my tootsies!

Hey treeofdad -
1 & 2) yes the cold temps make my pains worse - here in the midwest we have lots of humidity and dew that makes the temps feel colder - down right bone chilling
3) i try to keep my back area warm - wear an extra spagetti shirt under (plus i have to for my brace) - warm baths, heat pad - oh and aspercream - don't know if the aspercream works but i put it on every morning and night -
just try to keep warm - that's all that we can do - i try not to go outside during the winter - we also have way too much ice storms and i have a fear of falling!LOL
take care - Joy
