Mama bear or Tabac? - Badger & Blade

I wanted to pick up another shaving soap, as i've been using Colonol Clonks (or whatever its called) almond.

Its good, but i've heard outstanding things about both of these.

Which is reccomended over the other?

If i get mama bear i'm gonna grab either dragons blood or vanilla sandlewood, and i think that Tabac only has one flavor (is that the word?). So which is more highly reccomended in terms of being a good soap?

You cannot really compare these.

Two types of soaps.

Both are fantastic, but it's an apples to oranges issue. I wouldn't want to pick one over the other. Yes, Tabac is only in Tabac scent.

MB, many scents to pick from.

The hard part is deciding on one.

+1 I'd say get both.

Good advice...Tabac is in a class by itself, but Mamabear's perform very very well and you have so many scents to choose from.

Also, one is glycerin based and one is tallow based. if I had to pick, I'd pick tabac...but you should get both!

Hhhmmmm. Corvette or Dodge Viper or Shelby, or whatever other dream car you can imagine.

You would have to choose because you can't afford to have both. Luckily with Mama Bear and Tabac, you don't have to choose.

You can have both.

Get one of each. The real choice comes in trying to decide which Mama Bear.

I hope you have skin of steel to try the Dragon's Blood.

Unless that's not the Dragon one I had that burned so much.

But, for performance, I'd go with MB.

See my sig to find out that I can't get a good lather from Tabac.

And I have quite a few MB soaps that are great! Every time a MB thread pops up, it tickles my itch to buy some more from her.

Within the next few months, there are going to be quite a few Sues getting orders from TENroaches.

Don't get me wrong, I loves me some MB but Tabac is an outstanding soap.

If I could only have one of the two it would be Tabac.

Thankfully, I am not in that position.

The general consensus seems to be leaning to Tabac, with props to MB for still making great soap.

One additional factor favouring Tabac, is that MB, like the Conk you are using now, is glycerine-based, while Tabac is a triple-milled tallow-based soap. So I'd say try Tabac, so you can try the different type of soap.

Just my opinion, but the Tabac smelled like bug spray.

I traded it after just 1 shave.

Get Mama Bear's Rosemary Mint.

Get Mama Bear's Rosemary Mint. Mike, that's funny.

You must have some nice smelling bug spray where you live.

This is like asking, "Which one of your kids do you love the most?" However, since you already have tried a glycerin-based soap in the Col.

Conk you might want to try the triple-milled Tabac.

Thanks for that Tabac, by the way.

Did you ever find a way to use the Violetta without it burning? Hopefully I learn to make good Tabac lather soon.

I know I'm in the minority but I do not like Tabac at all.

I could not get decent lather no matter what, I even tried using heated distilled water instead of tap and no difference.

I wasn't crazy about the scent either. MB soaps smell amazing, they're cheap, easy to make lather with and perform very well.

Nah, it burned my face pretty good - not as bad as the Bay Rum, but still pretty good.

It's a shame. I loved the smell of the Violetta and the Bay Rum.

Right now, though, the Special 218 may be the leading contender for favorite QED, along with Chocolate.

Even if it's apples and oranges, it's Tabac for me every time. I do like MB containers though !

I put my Arko soap in it and passed the MB soap forward.

Ditto. I didn't care for the scent of Tabac - too strong and lasted all day.

Not my thing. I'm an unabashed Mama Bear lover, though.

I don't think Col.

Conk's soaps hold a candle to hers. IMHO, there's no real difference between tallow-based or quality glycerine-based soaps: they both work well, they both get you a good shave, and they both are good values. If you want to try a tallow based soap, I'd recommend Mitchell's Wool Fat over Tabac.

Sue makes good soap - but Tabac (in my opinion) is superior, in terms of cushion, moisturizing properties, lather, effacacy, etc.

Also - Tabac is a great deal, as it comes in a ceramic covered pot, and a cake of Tabac will literally last years.

The only downside to tabac in my opinion is the lack of scent choices.

I am quite fond of the tabac scent in the winter, but it is a bit strong in the summer....

But others like that about it.

General public seems to think why choose.

Get both.

Get both. Only if someone wants to fund me I wish they sold like half bars just so i could test all these soaps out

Conk you might want to try the triple-milled Tabac.

+1 Try something different.

I like the old school stuff, so I'm a Tabac fan.

It is the best shaving gear I own. At least until I open up my SR3824 that came in the mail today.
