After 19 months, I'm not sure I trust the scent opinions of others - Badger & Blade
You know the whole YMMV thing?
Well, the following items regularly receive negative reviews, scent-wise:
1.
Arko soap
2. Derby Lemon Cream
3.
TOBS Sandalwood Cream
4.
TOBS Lemon Lime cream
5.
Proraso green cream
I think they all smell wonderful
The following are adored on the forum, scent-wise:
1.
Nancy Boy Sig cream
2.
TOBS Rose cream
3.
Musgo Real Cream
I think they smell awful.
Like, I will never use them again, ever.
I wasn't blown away by the smell of Tabac soap either.
I've decided my nose doesn't lie.
YMMV

What really matters is what you're wife or girlfriend thinks of those scents...
If I use Proraso, my wife says it smells "nice," but if I use C&E sandalwood, well I get a much better response.
|
 |
I'm with you. I love Proraso.
It will forever have a part in my rotation.
Tabac?
Traded it after 3 shaves.
Girlfriend hated it too.
Others complain about a lack of scent in MWF.
But I love it. It has a simple small village soapy smell.
If that makes sense at all.
Oh well, even more reason to buy everything and sort it out for yourself.

I think I waste too much time with nerdy hobbies to have a girlfriend or a wife.

YMMV I happen to like all of the above scents with the exception of Derby Lemon.
IMHO it smells like a urinal cake.

I'm with you guys ...
If the chicks dig it, it will become a welcome part of our rotation!

I love rose-scented shaving products.
I have rose shaving cream, rose aftershave milk, and rose EdT from SCS.
The girlfriend doesn't like how the rose products smell on me, so I tend not to use them when she's around.
That leaves very little time for me to use my favorite scents!
|
 |
I have to agree with you on this one.
Scents and sense of smell are very subjective.
I don't mind the smell of Arko soap or cream.
However, my wife can't stand the Arko soap smell for the first few weeks after it is opened.
I'm also afraid that if I buy Clubman my wife will place it in the trash along with my Brute ASB.
The Aqua Velva is just so so and my wife hasn't tossed it yet.
I am considering going back to Old Spice but it was my x-wife's favorite and I don't want to start mixing scents and emotions.

Sounds like you need to get a new girl friend.
Look at me.
I quit using my favorite after shave after dumping my first wife and now I miss it.
That was nearly 12 years ago!

Sir, Derby Lemon, however horrid, smells far worse than a mid-grade urinal cake.
But it lathers far better!
I honestly don't care too much for Derby Lemon, but I still will pre-lather in the shower with it.
All the Derbys have a great, very forgiving lather and they are inexpensive.

I'm a big fan of this girl, so I'll try to ease her into liking the rose scent.
Somehow. I'm already trying to convince her to let me make some lather for her and that she should take a DE to her legs.
She seems somewhat open to the idea, so that's a start.
I'm curious as to why you stopped using your favorite aftershave.

Case in point: Aqua Velva

My first wife was nearly obsessed with it.
She would put some on her pillow case when I was deployed and then write to tell me about it...
Yadda, yadda, yadda.
She was also impossible to live with.
I mean literally flat out impossible.
So do you see how the two have collided?
I still like Old Spice.
I was even one of the product study participants for the Old Spice High Endurance deodorant when I worked at Procter & Gamble, and I still use it daily.
I just try to avoid anything that reminds me of certain problems.

Quote: : No kidding.
Case in point: Aqua Velva I went to the store during lunch today and put some AV on my wrist.
I've never tried this AS before.
I just kept sniffing at it the rest of the day wondering "should I really like this?"
|
 |
Aqua Velva to me was one of those scents that had to grow on me.
I read the good reviews on here and went out and gave a sniff and was like "it's not bad but I don't know if i really want to buy it." Couldn't shake the urge to give it a go though and now I don't know if I would think of my shave as complete without it.
I have Pinaud Bay Rum as well and i like the cinnamon smell and the heat but I am a much bigger fan of the long lasting icy cool of the Velva it completes the shave for me right now.

I've always loved AV.
My Dad had a plastic AV bottle that looked like a stack of power chips back in the 80's.

How would you say it compares to Praraso splash?
Just to get off topic a bit.
I've tried neither, AV obviously being the less expensive and more attainable option.

THE K Ok this is possibly the most worthless post I have ever seen.
Ok that is a lie but it is up there.
As for whiskers question.
I have never tried the Proraso post shave.
I started with regular Nivea Sensitive skin.
Was never much of an after shave guy but Bay Rum sounded interesting to me so I tried it out.
Good scent but you have to be ready for the heat.
Then of course you read about the wonderful pairing of shaving with Proraso and then using AV.
Tried to stay away but had to try it.
It's not about the scent on this one for me though it's all about the cool.
The smell doesn't last long but you get a good 15 minutes of icy cool on the freshly shaved face.
Well worth the $4 for the comfort received.
And you can get it just about anywhere.
